I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on this. The back light in my stock radio (98 LX470) has finally failed after 273k miles. Does anybody know if this can be repaired? I have not yet pulled the radio out, but am curious if anybody else has had this problem.

Thanks, MK

It can be repaired by a competent electronic person. The bulbs are burned out. Disassembling the head unit all the way down to the back of the faceplate will show you (or the repair person) where the bulbs are, and Radio Shack or Allied Electronics will have repair parts. This same procedure has been done to change the backlight illumination color when swapping head units from one car to another. (ie. Green to Amber).

Here is a link (not for the head unit, but you get the idea)----> https://forum.ih8mud.com/electronic-toys/253505-green-back-light-yaesu-radio.html

Had any luck? My dad has an 01 Land Cruiser with navigation. The actual radio part doesn't illuminate when lights are on and according to a local radio repair place bulbs are fine and its getting power to the radio.
