Working on pulling my radiator today since the new one should be here soon, and I noticed that the rubber isolators on the top bolts are dried and cracked as hell. I could find the ones for the lower, vertical bolts on Partsouq but no reference to figure out if the uppers are the same as the ones on the bottom bolts. Can anyone verify if the uppers are the same as the lowers? If yes that'll simplify my search, unfortunately they don't seem to be available anymore, so I'm still looking for any source that might have them.

Mine weee missing altogether I think, or half of them so I used a neoprene washer from Ace and cut it down to size to fit. I can get you a photo but not till tmrw, leaving work in the dark and it’s cold as heck.

Yeah I'm curious to see how you did yours.

So the rear section of the rubber is good but the front was missing. That’s where I cut a thick neoprene washer from Ace to act as the front side. If I remember correctly the rubber is simply a smaller version of the lower horizontal insulator. So getting that rubber sleeve that the bolt shaft runs through would take some ingenuity. Maybe Onur can source them... or Georg could grab some decent used ones.

FWIW, radiator insulators on my rig were decent when first pulled @ 2yrs ago. I coated them with plumbers silicon grease and they still look good. I added lil more with the recent radiator swap.

Nice Fix NeverGiveUpYota.

Thanks! I’m thinking @Spook50 if Ace has rectangular sheets of thinner neoprene (I know they do of the washers) you could cut and potentially make a tube buy gluing the ends w/ plastidip. But maybe there’s a thin rubber hose that could work. Honestly the material wouldn’t even need to be glued together, just stuffing it in and having a big enough space to slide the shaft through would suffice.

No chance you know the name of that stuff do you? Sounds like a good thing to have around for moisturising old rubber.

Ha, I hadn't thought of asking Georg if he has any used ones. @orangefj45 whaddya say? Got any leftovers from your resto jobs that are in good shape? Could use both uppers and lower isolators.

@Spook50 What brand is your new radiator? I'm having mine pressure tested and may need a new one and am open to suggestions. I've read a lot of threads with very different opinions on what works best.

I ordered a CSF 2708 from Summit. Rockauto apparently carries them as well for $300, but they had none in stock when I checked and no indication of when they would get more. from Summit it was $390 with free shipping. I'm also tackling a lot of other projects while it's apart that I've been putting off. Fix headlight harness, new horns and horn wiring, tranny cooler, and right beforehand new muffler and replaced my non-operational fuel gauge. Been a busy spring for my 62.

Awesome! I'm doing the same... I'm refreshing my whole top end. Started a thread Here.

Once I get it back together, we should meet up and talk cruisers. I'm just over in CdA.

Yeah definitely. Always up to meet a fellow cruiserhead.

From the old home brewing days rubber safe food grade silicone grease.

As many of us were taught is sex ed class Vaseline will degrade rubber. So as long as food is not involved KY lube.

Is it the same viscosity as KY @Prairie Swamp and @TexasBlue? Easy thing to grab at work... we have itvin little packets tho it’s not written as such when I hand it to folks for a oxygen safe lip moisturiser I call it KY. ;) Family always look at me funny.

It has consistency of light grease, simliar to vaseline.
Ok cool. I’ll add it to my list to pickup when I’m next at Ace sounds like a thicker option to the little packets of aftermarket KY. ;)
