Radiator began leaking and had a lot of corrosion on welded seams. Will no longer hold coolant. Called local shop and they asked if it was standard or heavy duty? Is there such a distinction? Mines a 1998 w/ 235k. Has lived in Louisiana and Mississippi it's whole life. I searched and really found few threads on the radiator.

I don't believe I've heard anyone refer to a "heavy duty" unit. Replaced my radiator on the 99 almost 2 years ago with a leak in the center. Koyo Radiators, I've been told are the OEM replacements. I ordered a Koyo ($400), they shipped a CSF ($200), then I had them get me the proper Koyo I ordered.

With the CSF in hand and the Koyo, I inspected for any differences and to my untrained eye- they looked to be exactly the same. Same construction, materials, same everything but the stamp-and I wondered if they rolled off the same production line. Hopefully we can get a confirmation from someone informed on these units.

No issues with the Koyo, but wondering if I paid more than necessary. Installation not difficult, make sure shop you're using uses proper Toyota NON premixed red coolant for the 98, and distilled water. I confirmed yesterday at my trusted Toyota dealer concerning the coolant selection; only 2004 trucks and newer use the premix Toyota red.

I've got another radiator related question that I can't find through search. Does anyone know what the internal diameter of the coolant lines running to the heater core are? 3/8"? 1/2"?

Its going to be metric sized tubing. What are you planning to do??

50 miles from civ and $200 for a quality part isn't over paying if you're walking. That is, unless it's the exact same part a la Odyssey/DieHard Plat.

True. But when I've done the PS and ATF fluid exchanges 3/8" ID nipples and tubing worked perfectly. So I'm planning to find the SAE that's closest.

My shower, water heater, on board water system is in the diagraming and part sourcing stages. I realized that that's the only piping dimension I don't know.
