Can any one tell me what the proper
rad cap rating is for a 2lte..
Just want to make sure the right one is on my truck as it has been changed at some point on it's journey to me.

Thanks for any info..:D

Thanks much.

Thanks for the converstion Robin.
The cap on my truck is correct.

BAD NEWS
My truck is in the shop.
At least I put 6000km on it before the rad started a pin hole leak, within two days it had 2 pin hole leaks.
It is the original rad so at 16yrs old I guess it was time..
I'm having it recored / rebuilt with high preformance tubes..
At least I will know the rad is GOOD..(no blocks etc.)

I've explained the burpping process and the head issues they said they would look it up..and make sure they did it right..
Xing my fingures.

Rad Fixed

Well truck was in shop 2 1/4 days.:frown:
Picked it up this A.M.. :D
Rad now has a years warrenty.:)
The rad was mod'ed by adding an extra row of tubes. (not sure if that is good or bad)
All 3 rows are now supposed to be high efficiency..
So I guess it will hold a little more than the original 8 quarts of
coolant and cool that coolant a little better.

I did notice on my drive back to work that the coolant temp guage (stock) was sitting solid on 1/3 of guage face. Compared to bobbing up to 1/2 & down prior to the rad fix.

so you are saying the original rad was only 2 core? i nver bothered to check, if so then a 3rd row is a good idea...

Wayne that's what the guy at the shop told me..He said it ( the original) had two rows of tubes.. I guess a 2 core..I never got a look at the old rad..
But asked how many more rows he could get into the tanks he said he could probably get another row in ..I said make it so and he did..

I suggested this due to all the overheating issues with the 2lte.
I figured one more row or core added to this rad would hopfully give the fluid time to cool. Who knows maybe the rad is also marginal for this motor..(just a thought)

that is good news, maybe i will take my problematic LJ78 rad in for a 3rd row and run some tests...
thanks for the info...

No problem Wayne that is what we're here for..
I'll be cruising every night for the next little while..not to mention running back and forth to work (stop and go)
Can not get enough of driving this LJ78 Prado..laf
I'll post here in this thread in another couple of days
with regards to how the rad is working..

I should tell you it cost a pile of $$, $420.00 for the rad work.
By the time labour, washer fluid (8quarts plus now cause of the larger rad)
and taxes were in, it was a $568.09 rad job. So I hope the mod's were worth it..

Wayne >>Rad Mod Good

HEY Wayne..
With the heat we've been getting here I've been out and about up some pretty good hills and such..Idling 20 to 30 minutes here and there, waiting for the wife & daughter at the Mall and other places, all the usual real world type of driving EVERY evening since the rad was replaced.. But with the extreme heat of the weather thrown in..
Must also add the air has been going none stop while out Cruising around and the occassional OVER the dreaded 3K rev mark (Boy did it ever get up and go). (I can see why people want to run with their foot in it..)
They say we will not see any relief from this heat till this Thursday.

The new rad with 3x cores  instaed of 2x cores is working just great..needle no longer bobs up and down ( no offence meant to Bob:D ) It holds solid..bottom 1/3 of guage compared to 1/3 to 1/2 before..the recore of the rad.
I should also mention that none of the tubes in the old rad were plugged, I was told all that was wrong with it was it's age and the age of the solder..and that's why the joints were starting to let go..Just thought you may like to know that..
I'm now wondering how difficult it would be to recore x4 rows and if that would make any more of a difference.
MY Bottom line worth all $568.09 for the Mod'ed recore and 1 year warrenty.

I'm really THINKING (which is bad) that the Original radiator in this truck is/was also marginal for this motor (not big enough & not cooling enough fluid)
Then again I could be way out in left field:cool: ..BUT I REALLY DO NOT THINK SO...after seeing my results....:grinpimp:
Now I can't wait for my muffler to die so I can get a bigger pipe on:rolleyes:

first, don't be scared to drive over 3000 rpm as it helps purge the system of hot gasses quicker.
the rad MOD is a great one, let me know how it does occasionally as the time goes by. i REALLY wish i payed more attention when i had mine out... darn.

congrates and enjoy.

cheers
