Radiator bypass nipple broke off - Fix / Replace?

I posted a response to a thread about breaking the bypass nipples off the radiator earlier in the 80 section.

Can anyone confirm if this is repairable, or does the top half or the radiator, or WHOLE thing need to be replaced?

If I have to replace the whole radiator - does anyone have a used one they are willing to part with?

I was running repair scenarios through my head, especially the one mentioned about using a small length of copper tube that would fit inside the I.D. of the plastic fitting - but after reading the EXPLODED radiator thread, I am worried about pressure or the repair failing.

Any suggestions or fixes that should work?

Also, I obviously see where the bypass hose connects (used to connect) to the nipple on the top of the radiator....

What is the function of this bypass hose?

If I needed to bring the vehicle somewhere for repair, could I put a screw in the stump from the nipple and kink that bypass hose - or would that prevent something from working properly and cause catastrophic failure?
 
Your best option is to replace it. If you go with the epoxy it back on plan, get thin wall tube that just fits, from a hobby or good hardware store, make sure everything is perfectly clean and dry, then allow full cure time before reassembly and refilling, with JB weld it's 24 hours.

The other options are to find a used radiator with a good tank and have a radiator shop swap out the top tank. Spike found a good deal on an aftermarket radiator.
 
Are aftermarket replacement radiators metal on top? The idea of having that be easily breakable and explodeable plastic is silly to me...
 
The plastic tanks are well proven, durable units. I have seen brass radiators blow off tanks, split seams, etc., the common theme is, air leaks and motors that are running hotter than designed. The number one cause of air leaks is an old cap, low airflow is the biggest contributor to hot running, make sure the fan clutch is up to par, the airflow seals are in place and the radiator, condenser fins are clean.

I'm happy with it. Plastic tanks, looks and fits exactly like OEM, I would not be suprised to find out that Koyo manufactures the OEM part. I don't know if they sell a different part for 93-94 and 95-97 like Toyota does, but the one I got (for my 94) was a 3 row brass core.
