Hey gang, for those of you who have full roof racks on your 60, where did you get the rain gutter brackets to support the rack? Did you make them, did youorder them, or somethin else? Pics would be great, I'm about to make a full rack in the next week just need somehow to attach it to the cruiser.

Thanks, Chuck

I got the 4" high aluminum rack mounts from sor part number 257-90. I added between 1/4 and 1/2" of spacers to clear the roof line. I was trying to keep the rack as tight to the roof as possible as my truck is still a garage queen.

I wish I had done this, good idea. I use 4 Thule bars and 8 feet, people keep asking me where I got the big Thule roof rack from.

Pic?

Another option is the Quick 'n Easy Rack components. These are cast aluminum, come in two heights and are made in the USA. I have used them for years (both of my cruisers and other vehicles) without any mishaps.

See them here: http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product_list.asp?deptid=1379

These are better quality than Thule, etc. and about 1/2 the price.

How many crossbars do you guys suggest for a full length rack. Im gonna build one in the spring and I have 2 Yakima bars. I was thinking that one more (total of 3) would be sufficient for a 31" spare and some gear, but judging by the one pic with 6 crossbars, maybe Im wrong.

hodag: I'm the one with the six cross bars. I put six on for follwing reasons: (1) the cross bars are 3/4 aluminum tube and I think they flex a little more than similar sized steel, (2) I needed to keep the rack close to the top of the vehicle, but I didn't want to rack to touch the roof when I walking or sleeping on top (3) I'm a beginner welder using a 110V mig for welding aluminum and I found it was very difficult to get good penetration, so I overdesigned it to spread the load.

All that being said, I've never had much of a load on top when I've been driving, either with this rack or my previous steel 1/2 rack. I think six is pretty much overkill; I don't think I've ever seen a rack with that many.

I believe that Yakima's maximum dynamic load rating on a 60 is 165lbs. Three bars is plenty - 4 is marginally better.
