Leaving for Moab in two weeks, no time to get this fixed.

Just found I've got a slow leak from my rack and pinion. I lost about a cup of fluid over about 3 weeks.

I'm a little worried now about my upcoming Moab trip. I hate going out with a sick rig. Here's my thought, please share yours.

1) Top off the power steering fluid every morning
2) Wrap a new rag around the leaking spot and wire it with bailing wire every morning in hopes to minimize leakage onto the trail.

Should I be worried about anything else?

Since you asked. Leaving for parts unknown with a known mechanical (ditto for any type of issue) issue is never a benefit to the driver, occupants and fellow travellers of said rig ;).

And if it fails where you have little to no support then the costs typically go up proportionately.

Fix it before you leave. It has to be done anyway.

I have this same thing going on right now. I just put a lot of money in the truck so i am trying to avoid buying a new rack at the moment. I talked to IPOR about it, and they said i should be fine for a good while as long as i keep the fluid topped off. So for now, that is what i am doing.
