Anyone here have luck recharging their cruiser with R12? If so, who should i take it to?
I'd love to do it myself but have no idea where to start when it comes to AC issues.

Thanks

Edwin might be able to do it, if not, I use know Cox automotive has R12 and can recharge it. Call Paul Cox - 512-385-3230

I'll contact Cox Automotive

Thanks Mark and Edwin for the replies.

Edwin - I'm stopping by a little later in the day to pick some minor things off the 60....

Champion has a R-12 machine, if I were there I'd do it for you but I'm back in Waco. You could still call them up and get a quote, if you want to pay dealer prices.

Worldspan,

Do you just need to add R12? Or, what is the problem with your a/c?

Not sure where to locally get R12 these days. If you can find some locally and the ask for your "license", let me know. I have my EPA and ASE certification cards that we can use. If I can find my gauges, I can probably help you add some.

also, Freeze12 might be another alternative to R12. I hear it does not work as good though...

One more thing, I will be in Laredo this weekend visiting family... I have a buddy who "brings" r12 cans back from Mexico. I'll check with him to see if he's got some and how much he wants per can...

Meatloaf - I need to get my system checked out. I'm a novice mechanic to say the least and have basically learned everything i know about fixing cars from when i got my fj60 10 yrs ago(couldn't even change a starter now i can at least replace my intake manifold and properly desmog a 60)...anyways, i know NOTHING about AC systems and how to diagnose them. I'm probably in need of more than a charge but i wanted to get the rig assessed somewhere where they have r12, if and when i need it.

You can also buy the 134a conversion kits. That's what I did, got the freon and gauges and vacuum from autozone, and it's worked beautifully ever since. Just a thought.... plenty cold, though having to cool the interior of a 60 is a big task for it, especially in Dallas in the summer....
