I would put in another vote for Quincy. The QR-25 series compressors are some of the finest ever made. There are a lot of them out there and a lot of folks don't know what it is they have. The majority are 3 phase, but a new Baldor compressor duty 5HP single phase motor is about $350 to your door.
The Quincy models 310 and 325 are likely the best suited to a home garage/shop. These will run 2-5 HP motors and are extremely quiet when driven at the lower end of their rated speed- around 400 RPM.
Parts and even the history of a Quincy are always available. I had a 310 from 1949 that I ran for a couple years. Ran all day every day. Had to replace a valve cartridge about 18 months in. 55 or so years on the original valves was enough to sell me.
