Quicky- 33"s on stock gears...

i ran 33's on stock 3.7 gears for a year before going 4.56 and it was ok, but not great. no low end at all...i didn't have the h55, so that may have conned me into staying 3.7 cause i really liked being able to do 90mph

I suspect that you wont ever be using 5th gear in that set up. I had a cherokee with a mild built up 4.0 liter six. I went to 33's and 3.73's and I *couldnt* use 4th gears (auto overdrive) at all.

even with a diesel? All the power is down low...? hmm, may have to fine some 62 gears first...

Your diesel is normally aspirated isnt it? Anyway if it is it is much the same in power as the 2F. Yes I'd say even with the diesel.

You HAVE to properly gear a vehicle when you are doing these kind of things.

IMHO

Around 500.00 and end. That includes install kits and the like.

Then you have to install them. If you can do that great. That dosent include any lockers.

Around a 1000.00 an end for factory 4.11's with cable lockers. But that DOES include install as you'd be getting the third member intact.

Here is the gear info.:

Most aussie landcruisers have the 4.111 or 4.3 and run 33in tyres.
I have that set up on my 3F 73 series and 1st gear does about 10 mph at 2000 rpm.It is still so low I rarely use it,on or off road.
In 5th there is slightly more load on the engine but barely noticable and is more than outweighed by the reduction in noise and vibration. In 5th at 70mph the rpms are about 2400.

IMO you want to run 33s with a 3.70 1st will be ok but 5th will only be suitable for very flat terrain and no headwinds.

I ran 33's on my HJ60 and actually liked it quite a bit. With stock tires in 5th 90 MPH was about 3200 RPMS which is high. With 33's it was at about 2500 IIRC at 90. Only problem was the truck struggled up hills and in the altitude (where I live) with the bigger tires. But the gearing was sweet plus the 4.9 first gear is equivalent to running 4.88's and then some over a stock FJ60 and 4.88s. With the turbo I absolutely loved it and it was geared perfectly. Not killer crawl gears but decent at 38:1 or so, but with the diesel you can idle and lag over a lot, I remember cruising around in 3rd gear in low range mostly in Moab and 2nd and 1st for the hard stuff...

Good luck!

Are 33"s too big for stock gears? I have an h55f so that gives me a lower first, but i don't want to waste money on 33"s if i need gears first... I recon it'll be ok, plus i will appreciate teh longer legs on the highway, granted they are not too long...

you should be just fine :D the H55F with it's low first gear makes the jump to 33's very easy and doable. have been running 33 x 10.5's with our H55F for just about a year now and while the gearing was affected, the 5-speed more than compensates for the change in ratios....easy driver ;)

do the treads, drive on 'em for a while, and if you still think you need different gears, well cross that bridge then. IMHO, i think you will be pleased and not need them

Awesome guys guys thanks for the clarification, if i have any money left over after the 1hz swap, i am looking at shackles and 33"s (springs are already about 1.5" over stock) :D

PS: A land cruiser can go 90 mph???? ;)

Why would you want to go 90mph? You're driving the wrong vehicle ifn you're wanting to do that stuff.

Yup, definitely need gas !!! Diesel just won't cut the mustard @ highway speed ...

oh im not looking to reach that speed....just found it surprising that someone actually got a cruiser chuggin that fast... im only looking for 75-80 max on the highway, just to keep up with the big rigs ;) , if i need a turbo to do it, so be it :D

IMNSHO ... 75-80 mph is probably the *high* safe limit for our rigs. If any faster ... the suspension is being over driven unless it's been seriously lowered for high speed use.

Cheers,

65 mph seems to be my limit. seems to do better around 60 mph though.

60 cruiser = stay in the slow lane :)
