I bought a Spring Compressor from Harbour freight to help with the Upgrade of the front springs on my 05 Tacoma.

It's pretty easy to use and is sturdy. I Put one of the new OME springs in it to test it out yesterday, I compressed it by about an inch and a half, and it started to get pretty firm, so i stopped.

How far can you compress these springs safely? How far will i need to compress them the get the assembly back together?

and finally How far will i need to compress the stock springs to get the assembly apart?

I posted this same question in the 95+ truck section as well.

Thanks!

I take it that this is for your Taco? In my 80 I just removed the shocks and tires, let the axle droop and the springs fell out, no compressor needed. However, that's a very different animal...

yep,

The shock is "inside" the spring. Like this -

obviously you will need to compress it to pull pressure off and get the spring out..
Im not a big fan of using Low Quality tools on a job such as this, if something goes wrong and that spring jumps out at you it could cause MAJOR Damage.. It may be worth it to have a shop do this job! or possibly get a compressor from Autozones loan program

Had to take it to a place to get it done after i bent one of the arms of the POS compressor i bought.

The Front Coilovers are in now though. looks good.

have to finish the back with ADD a Leafs. I'll post a Pic.

I was going to say, the strut's spring has a ridiculus spring rate. Wasn't sure if it was going to work or not.
