Can you install a tow hitch underneath the slee rear bumper? That's were mine is now with a factory bumper. I just need to figure all the little quesions out before I show you guys a B.A. Cruiser in Basalt CO. Thanks:grinpimp:

Why would you want to have a hitch UNDERNEATH the receiver thats built-into the Slee bumper ?.. To maintain a "class" rating ?...

I guess the pic ya` post will explain my question c-dog...

I see that the Slee bumper is "not rated." I'm assuming thats because it was cost prohibitive to obtain a formal rating. Notwithstanding a formal rating, would a Slee bumper be able to handle a 250 lb tongue weight hitch on a boat?

I would think/hope so. I replaced my factory trailer hitch/bumper on a F250 Superduty with a Ruenel bumper that had a built in receiver (similar to the Slee), and that increased my tongue capacity. And it looks to me like the Slee is built just as stout as the Reunel was.

My first post. Finally, somebody asks a question that I know something about. I have a Slee bumper w/tire carrier on my '98 100-Series. I have been using the bumper for about eight months. I almost didn't buy the Slee bumper originally for the simple fact that it was not rated for towing, but I figured I'd take my chances in ordering it and make the decision about towing with it after I got a good look at it. Let me just say that, in comparison with the factory reciever hitch, the Slee bumper is better built, stronger, and more securely anchored to the frame in every way. I feel comfortable towing anything with the Slee bumper that I towed with the factory receiver. I towed a 23 foot camping trailer about 250 miles with the Slee bumper and I was completely satisfied with its performance. I would have no reservation in towing a trailer with 250 lb. tounge weight with the Slee bumper.

One major difference from the factory reciever is that the reciever in the Slee bumper sits about 6" higher, so you may have to use a hitch insert with a larger drop. One could install the factory receiver under the Slee bumper, but it would be unnecessary and redundant and would compromise the improved departure angle that you get from the Slee bumper (not to mention the rugged good looks of the thing).

My understanding is that the bumper is not rated for towing because the process of obtaining a DOT rating for the bumper would be too costly given its limited production. I suspect that Slee will reserve any comment on the towing performance in order to avoid any potential liability, which I don't blame him for.

I suspect you are correct sir.

Actually we are working with a company on getting the bumper and receiver rated. have to locate a rear portion of a 100 series frame first. I have one, but it is the model that has the receiver hole in it. I am looking for a rear that does not have the hole in the crossmember. Once I have that, a bumper will be sent for testing and compliance testing with SAE J684

Cool, I bet that's gonna set you back a few pennies. :)

Thanks for the info. I don't think i'm going to put anything under the bumper.

I just saw one of Slee's bumpers this week. It looks better built in every way v. stock (as you would expect from an aftermarket pro).
