what would cause a timing cover not to come off a 90 pickup,my stepson advised me they seam to have it all apart but the cover will come off so far then stop. he seems to think the key if there is one is also out,im not sure the motor maybe3.0

Dunno on the 3.0, but the 22r/re has a couple little nubs that hold it in place. IIRC there are a couple of bolts that are hard to see, but I don't remember which ones.

Once he has ALL the bolts out, a rubber mallet or light taps from a brass or steel hammer will loosen it. Then just pull it off.

that sounds right to me .he is sort of not making sence he says it comes out about halfway then will not finish coming off then lacks a inch going all the way back on.he is telling me they are going to pull the motor tomorrow:frown:

we are doing a timing belt change right now on a V6 and had no problem getting the cover off.had to remove alot of stuff to get to the belt but the cover came off even before the water pump pulleys had to come off
