I'm replacing the calipers on my FJ62 with a rebuilt set from NAPA. The rebuilt set has a plastic plug where the hard brake line will screw into it. It also has a copper washer there.

When I took the old calipers in for the core charge I didn't notice if the copper washer was there. Does anyone know if I'm susposed to use this washer between the hard line and caliper?

Thanks.

yes, use the washer. it is a seal.

OK, just to double check-

The hard line that attaches to the caliper has a typical flared fitting. It's not the banjo type. I have seen copper washers on banjo fittings but not w/ flared fittings. I thought that the flared fittings sealed when the flare bottomed out and didn't need the seal?

Correct, there is no copper washer used on either end of the short hardline that is connected to the brake caliper. Just a standard flare fitting.

What Jim said. I'd like to know why it came with a copper seal in the first place

That's what I wondered. It was around the plastic plug in the hole for the hardline on one caliper and there were two hanging on the tag wired to the other one. Maybe the place that rebuilds them includes them no matter what.

Thanks for the info.

Also, check that the threads are good before you install. I just put Napa calipers on and found that they had mucked up the threads with the metallic re-finishing dip they must use and I stripped my brakeline fitting. Also found the dip had sealed the hole for one of the pins that holds the pads in and had to redrill that. Check them over good before installing.
