Hi all.

Im hoping some kind soul can help me with a couple questions.

I recently picked up a home built trailer (priced right) that the owner didnt know anyting about. I wanted to go thru it and replace the bearings. When I removed the wheel I found a strange sight. No grease cap, just a bolt running thru the hub with a nut on the back.

Im pretty sure the hubs used were from a car but dont know what car? Also, not sure that there are replaceable bearings inside this thing?

If anyone can identify this thing.. or even tell me more about what im looking at I would much appreciate it.

Also the suspension is a rather strange thing -

Its setup as an independent (shock/spring) deal. There is NO axle. Its seen some use and seems to support my 424# Motorcycle without much effort. But as ive never seen this type of setup on a trailer, im a little skeptical of its endurance.

Anyone ever seen a setup like this ???

thanks

You sir, are the latest recipient of the "WTF IS THAT!?!....I AINT SEEN NOTHIN" LIKE THAT!!" award.

I don't know what it is...but my guess is someone here has, and probably even built one...stay tuned!

Looks like a flange bearing to me?? Not sure it should be on a trailer, usally used to suport a shaft as it passes through steel sheet.
If you undo the cap head screw with a bf hex wrench and drop it out there will be a sealed bearing which you can just see in the pic this will rotate in the cast flange part of the bearing carrier and come out maybe need a shaft to free it up. very cheap to replace the bearing and the number will be written on it some where. There should also be a greese nipple on the flange cast part somewhere. Hope this helps but it's a bit late over here:beer::beer:

Oh and welcome:flipoff2:

Sweet!! A coil over suspension on a trailer. I bet it works great.

And welcome:flipoff2:

Thats a front bearing hub assembly from a FWD car of some sort . Its a sealed bearing unit so no greasing to be done . The bolt thru the middle would be where the axle stub would be when used on a car and keeps the pressed bearing all together .

I think its pretty interesting . It should hold up real well as these have very big bearings and are built to have the drive line weight plus all kinds of torque loads from steering .
I would say it should outlast the trailer
