After posting in the 80 tech forum about my story of a deal with a 1996 LC that fell through I came upon a deal for a 1998 with 142k miles for $14,900. I have done my homework on the 80's as far as pricing but am still a bit of a noob when it comes to the 100's. I know the major differences, V8, IFS, etc. This LC has the rear locker which is a plus over the 80 I was looking at.

Considering the miles - does this appear to be priced right? The dealer is also throwing in a 3 month 3000 mile powertrain warranty.

I have also read the threads for the 80s about the incredible longevity of that series. Does the same hold true for the 100's? Is there anyony pushing the envelope (high miles) with their 100?

Big thanks in advance for any responses / advice.

The price seems a little high for the mileage.

If the timing belt has never been replaced, it needs to be immediately.

Other than that, it should last a while longer.

Service history available? Timing belt changed at 90,000 mi.? Interior and exterior clean? Rust, etc.?

99's have rear air. Could be very important to your children/passengers if you live in AZ or something:)

00's have traction control and vehicle skid control but no rear locker.

I think that is a very good price for a dealer. In terms of longevity, not sure what you are pointing to i.e. block, head, suspension, leather, electrics etc.... I have a 98, 114k, very well serviced and it performs (engine/drivetrain) like a new car. My shocks are shot and I have noticed a shot sway bar bushing. All electrics are perfect. Mine has a rear locker and I love it. It is a very well built vehicle. Now, that prices, as mentioned above, needs to be held up against the service history i.e. 90k service is a must and coolant flushing/regular oil changes is a must.

Either the 80 or 100 is a good choice.
