Just out of curiosity, do you still have to take an out-of-state vehicle for an inspection when registering it in CT? I know the in-state vehicle inspections were done away with a few years ago.

I believe you do have to take the vehicle to DMV, but ONLY for a VIN check. That was the case last year at least. And only for an out of state title. Good luck and get there early!!!

Thanks. It was explained to me that it needed some sort of state safety inspection, which didn't seem to make a lot of sense. The VIN check does.

Heading to DMV to do just this I'll report back later

You do need a VIN check for out of state Vehicles you also need a emmisions inspection for All out of state vehicles, this presents a nice oppertunity, if you can get the vehicle emissions inspection before you do the reg. (You need to have a freindly inspection station;)) you do not have to get a vin check because the inspection station enters the VIN in the CT DMV system, you then reg. the vehicle as " In state"

Also remember that vehicles 20 years or older can have the early american plates on them (cheaper taxes) and vehicles 25 years or older can get a emmissions exemption after the initial test.

Well just got back from DMV The 40 is a 1980 all it needs is a vin check no emissions cause it's over 25 years old ( right from the DMV guys mouth) i also checked the DMV web sight it says the same thing.

Hope this helps

Gotta love it, register a $100k Ferrari and your local property taxes are based on a mandated value of $500. Gotta love the legislator that snuck that one through, somehow I don't think it was to benefit the "common" people. ;) Of course, most of my junk is only worth $500 anyhow.

Won't help you on the sales tax though, so be prepared to cough that up at registration.

All registered and good to go. I told them what I payed for it. and payed the taxes. Now let the mods begin

Yeah, my wife bought a bike in NH, just reged today, (in CT), and had to pay the taxes.

The NH shop where she bought it said if we reg in NH that the law says we have to only ride it in NH? Anyway, we took his advice and regged in CT, but she had to pay the taxes....
