Question for 45 experts...rear axle 40 vs 45?

65 fj45 LPB rear vs 76 fj40 rear. Are they a direct swap? Do they have different pinion angles relative to the leaf spring mount locations? I realize the 40 axle does not have the sway bar mounts and those would have to be swapped. Any info would be great. Thanks!

Not sure about the older 45's but the newer have a higher ratio R&P.

I'm pretty sure they are both 4:10....I'm just more concerned about the pinion angle because the lpb is so much longer and the distance from the transfer case to the diff is so much further.

If anything, the pinion angle would be less.

I really don't have any experience with the older 45's so I can't say if it would be a direct bolt on. If I had to guess, it would be yes.

I swaped a 40 axel under my 45 and had no issues

I used a 55 rear axle in the 45LV with no issues and it already had the sway bar tabs

Thanks for the info. I guess I will swap in the 76 rear. Hopefully I can get the sway bar tabs off the old axle without destroying them!
