Question 'bout welding a crack in a muffler

I have a lincoln 220 ARC (stick/ AC) welder. I also have a weld cracking at the joint were my rear exhaust pipe attaches to my muffler (magnaflow dual exit on my F150). One exhaust is wiggling around a bit and don't like the leak around the muffler.

Not a problem to weld it back up but a problem in my lack of knowledge with welding exhausts.

Is there a special type of rod I should use? (IE must use a certain type of rod for exhaust metal)

Or can I just weld away on an exhaust system like I do on regular old steel with regular old welding rod?

the exhaust tips are nice and shinny but not around the muffler pack itself. Thanks.
 
I would use 3/32 - 7018 rod it has shallow penetration and run it at around 70 amps, and move quick so you don't burn threw!! mufflers are easier to weld with wirefeed and 25 hardwire, but it can be done with stick! I suggest you find a thin piece of metal and practice a little before you try welding on your muffler!

Thanks for the response. I use that rod thickness and thin metal all the time for little hobbie type of projects or for brackets that hold my medical kit in place. Thin metal is easy to use at low amps as long as it keeps moving. There is always the second pass.
