Hi, I have a 97 LX450 with 17" rims and want to get bigger tires. I found some BFG All Terrains that are 285/60/18, which will require me to get new rims of course.

The question is, how big a tire can I use without having to make any modifications, such as adding a lift? I obviously don't want the tire to be so big that it rubs on some part of the wheel well.

Thanks for your anwers.

Well 35" will fit but they will rub on the flares, leaving little marks that you might not want to deal with. 33" will fit snugly and give your LC a nice little lift.

285/65/18 are only 32.5" so they aren't too tall.

How wide can I go?

Don't go over 13" without getting spacers, and 12" might be pushing it but don't take my word for search the tech forum:flipoff2:

In the Prescott area I see a lot of 80 type LC's in stock form with 315/75 tires mounted. This is kind of the max that can be done on a stock truck. It is similar to putting 31" tires on a 4runner or Montero. It is the most that can be fitted without modification. Go for it!

you can safely go to 305/70 R16 with virtually no rubbing.

the 315s will likely beat on your fender flares.

I fit 35x13.50/R15's with no lift at all. Rubbed when I turned left, but that's about it.
