I have a new to me 2023 GX460. The previous owner did some modifications to the suspension and wheels. Basically, upgraded the suspension with a lift and King suspension components.

He also swapped out the wheels to Method 314's and the tires to Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. The size of the AT3Ws is 275/70R-17. All five (5) wheels and tires are the same.

He was able to get the new tire and wheel back up into the stock spare tire location.

I bought a Curt hitch receiver for the GX460 on eBay and it came with both the hitch and spacer plate. So, I just dropped the spare and mounted the Curt hitch and spacer plate and I could not get the spare tire back up into its stock location. I then tried mounting just the hitch without the spacer plate and also the spare wouldn't go up into the stock location. I even dropped the tire pressure to 20 psi and the spare would not go in.

I looked to see if there might be another hitch receiver that might not be so deep and keep the spare from going up into its spot and I came across Metal Tech's hitch receiver.

Has anyone mounted one on their GX460? If so, could you please measure the distance from the center of the bottom mounting holes to the front edge (edge closest to the spare tire) and post that length. I think if the distance is less then 2.5 or more probably 2.25 inches, I can maybe use the Metal Tech hitch.

The only issue with the Metal Tech hitch is that it would require cutting the rear bumper. There are videos on YouTube of mounting the Metal Tech hitch but they are only for a GX470. Those videos show a different bumper configuration and removing a plate that a Curt receiver would mount to. Does the GX460 require the removal of that plate also?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! -Providing the distance from the center of the bottom mounting hole to the front edge of the Metal Tech receiver & any installation instructions/help for the Metal Tech receiver.

How much is the receiver hitch intruding on the spare tire space?
Does the spare fit without the receiver hitch?
Can you cut the back end of the receiver hitch?

Thanks for the questions!

The spare tire intrudes into the hitch space by about 1/4 of an inch. Maybe a little less.

The spare does "fit" without the receiver hitch. It is very tight, but you can crank it up there.

I had thought about modifying the Curt receiver but was wondering if cutting/grinding off the back of the hitch would compromise it somehow.

I really need the hitch so that I can mount something like a Rakattach that swings, can hold some gear/liquids and a bike rack. I'm not planning on doing a bunch of towing.

Disclamer: I have no calculations or professional knowledge if the following would work.
Personally, I don't think 0.25" trim off the back end (or I guess the front end, considering it's pointing toward the front) of your receiver would matter. The "meat" of the receiver is what's welded to the bars/tubes mounted to the frame.
