I bought 4 sets of quads when I was in Australia.

Sold a set to my buddy, keeping a set for myself.

Fixing up 2 sets to sell.

First phase was a good cleaning. Then disassembly and put the buckets through the pickling process to de-rust.
Just made some small pieces that were corroded to extinction.

When they come out of the tumbler they will be zinc then gold Passivation applied.

Need to order all new fasteners and inserts as some were pretty bad but some of the originals will be zinc plated and coated also.

Will list in the for sale section when completed. Price not yet determined.

Curious to know about your electro-etch process "recipe".

Volts?
Amps?
CV or CC, or a combination?

Thanks

I discovered Beyond Ballistic recipe n YouTube

Works great!

I just use Caswell stuff for the plating.

I have a 10am power supply and I just do all the cleaning and rust removal of the parts.
Drop the part into the heated zinc solution and increase amps till I get a nice sizzling/bubbling action and let it go for 2-5 minutes then just plop it in the gold juice.

It’s a play and learn process.

Tell me you're single without telling me your single.

Rebuilding motorcycles in the dining room...Those were the days!:grinpimp:

A little CNC plasma cutter would be the nuts for those adjustment plates, but its gonna be rough on the hardwood floor.

nope, very happily married with a wife that understands this is my therapy!

Paint removed then plunked into the acid pickle bath for a few days to remove any corrosion.

A few tweaks to straighten then etch prime and semi-gloss black.

Nice. Vintage two strokes: acceleration like a rocket, suspension and braking like a horse-cart.😂 They had class though... Before all the sport bikes grew fairings, they always tried to make the engines look good, and they never really got that back when naked bikes got popular again.

Truth!

More progress.

One of the bezels is broken. I’m using the good one to make a carbon fibre piece to bond on, blend, add high solids primer then one set will go satin black/charcoal.

I’m happy, this came out half decent.

Once trimmed, bonded, blended, high solid primed and painted it will look as good as factory!

Making headway, slowly but this motorcycle is being very difficult in finding parts.

The trims will be painted with SEM
39033 which is supposed to be very close to the trim in the grill in the early 80’s

A few tabs were either broken and 1 was missing altogether so carbon fiber sheet and thickened structural epoxy was used for the repairs.

Duplicolor wheel paint in graphite.

The grey in the grill and side markers will also get painted. Not sure but I may paint the grill completely 🤔

Looking good!
How many hours do you think you put into cleaning these up?
I’m going to guess about 15hrs, I don’t track time very well as I do this for pleasure.
I know, sounds dumb🤦‍♂️
