Purpose of this Brake Clip? (1 Viewer)

Bringing this one back from the dead as I go through all the threads on the various parts needed for the front brakes. I'm also chasing the squeek and am about to order up a full set of factory everything to ensure it's all done correctly. What I can't sort out is how the anti-rattle plate is installed -- does it fit over the top of the pads to help secure the pins?
Many thanks!

Yep, old thread revival once again. If you step on the brakes and hear a metallic clunk or ping, its could be the pads moving around on the rotor and shifting around inside the caliper body. I had this problem when I replaced my rotors and suspected these retainers, replaced them properly and no more noise when applying the brakes. The PO had the anti-rattle spring installed backwards. I had to look at a few pics of the FJ60 brakes to make sure I did it correctly as the service manual is very vague on this. Putting them in backwards causes the rattle spring to contact the actual rotor which eventually wears the spring so thin it breaks.

The smaller pad retaining spring is a MUST HAVE as it keeps the pins from working their way out which possibly would cause the pads to slip out of the caliper all-together. The other larger anti-rattle spring is what actually lock the pads in place so they aren't swimming around in the caliper and making noise when they contact the caliper retaining pins under braking.

I have seen them with 2 rattle springs per rotor and also just a single anti rattle spring per rotor. Works both ways.

This is one of the easiest to service vehicles ever, right after the Ford model T. I swear they engineered it to be worked on by the average bloke.

Upon searching the web what could be the effect without having this M- shaped clip ( Retaining Clip) we finally see our answers and it's the same on what you had experienced. We did the same manner of checking as you do. Proven!

Thank you!

The vehicle model is Lexus LX570.

Old Thread that was a lifesaver - so I am updating it. Had an aggravating sound originating from front of the car - metallic rattle almost sounding like ice in a blender. Leveraging the knowledge on this forum, ordered the parts and problem solved for about $35 (this is right up there with the heater-T's job in terms of bang for the buck). Pictures show brake caliper before, after (with all correct pins) and image of part numbers.

I was missing my drivers side anti rate spring but pads were on metal so maybe it was there at one point.
Are the 60 pins and anti rattle springs the same as 75?
Ebay has a kit for $15 that fits 60 & 75 and another listing for the 70-75 for $10.
If anyone can confirm they are the same springs I can save a few bucks and maybe run 2 per caliper.
TIA people.
