Have you guys seen this?
The seller has several nice restored 40s, and I was wondering if there is a catch...
The price seems really low (23k) for the level of restoration.

High mileage
Looks to be South America model not original US market FJ40. So imported and converted to meet US requirements.
Depending on where you are and emissions requirements could be an issue. no catalytic converter.

Many other things that are different than what would be on an 82 US market FJ40.
Depends on what you are looking for.
I hope this helps.

Personally I like to buy with original paint, or at very least original or close to color. Purple would be my last choice, well Pink.. then Purple lol. But other than that, initial looks are ok. It should sell for that much with someone that gets past the color. I'd like it to have Barn Doors too, so that makes me think the rest of the top fitting might be suspect. Doors look tight though.

They put rivets through the emblems :(

Someone tried to pry out the speedo with a flat head :(

Rear sill looks like it had some welding work done, some repair

Rear driveshaft doesn't look stock, but I could be wrong

It's not a USA Cruiser I'm sure you are aware. No roll bar, heater, etc. There is NO conversion required to meet USA requirements due to it's age.

200K km is not too bad but this is the kind of truck you really need to put an eyeball on. Could be well done, could be a pig with lipstick. The color is going to hold back the price some.

It seems like a nice truck. I don't mind the color, too much. It's not so much a resto as a perhaps a body-off paint job. Engine condition is anybody's guess, though it does look clean.

I'd try and get an eyes-on inspection before spending that money, though. On fleaBAY, a price too good to be true usually is. See if the feedback has been for other vehicles and not just a bunch of smalls.

Yeah, I guess I'm looking for a "drink beer and ride around" rig that can double as a Saturday morning Cars and Coffee conversation piece.
I'm looking for a rough looking (plenty of patina and rust) resto-mod with some lift and modern wheels, or something like this.

Something that screams F-YOU! to the purists...
But then, I also have a retro ducktail on my modern Porsche...so, I guess I'm "that guy"

If you had it inspected and it came back with a clean bill of health and color aside ( and that's a big aside as respray done right is gonna cost 3k+) you bought it for anywhere in the 20-22k range your stealing it. And even if you had to invest in a paint ( and respring as the rear is sagging a bit....down the road you'd recoup all your costs.

For second I thought someone stole my truck. I can't believe someone else in this world painted a 40 very, very purple. Maybe it was the same previous owner that Barney-fied mine.

Dana rear axle, boo. No heaters, no rollbar. Anything could be hiding under that purple ... puke. You worked hard for your money, don't spend it on this rig. There are better out there for the same coin. Just my $0.02.
