Thinking of buying a 2000 4runner SR5 with 130k. Im hoping for info on anything to watch out for on the vehicle before I buy..Thx

Timing belt, water pump, CV boots, key fobs and/or alarm fobs . Then check the transmission fluid and water for the proverbial pink milkshake.
All the bushings and if it has a sunroof, check for leakage. After that the maintenance records and car fax.
Call Toyota and have them check the VIN for recalls and TSPs.
Make sure everything works, 4x4, locker if equipped, rear heater, windows, rear wiper and washer etc. That's all I can think of right now.

I forgot, bring an OBD2 reader and check that all the drive cycles are completed and there are no stored codes. Some dealers/ people will reset the check engine light and it will stay off for some time until all the drive cycles are completed and then you will fail emissions and get stuck with the repairs.

raydbl... isn't that easy to just reply with the link each time someone asks what to look for when buying a 3rd gen 4Runner.

For me the thing least mentioned is the 99 model year got an interior upgrade. The cup holders are worth that alone :)
And getting the rocker switches off the console for the rear window and ECT.
Love the power heated mirrors where I live.
Oh and a stick only available through 2000 I think and then no more 2.7L
I love that little engine.. no timing belt and it just runs. I think it is certainly lower maintenance than the 3.4L but in saying that I think the 3.4L is the better choice for highway driving for sure.

Find an accident free unit without rust and with a well documented service history and you should have a keeper.

Ask if rear axle seals have been done (common problem at the 150,000 KM mark).

Also rear bumper corners rust, have a look if there's a pile of S&%T stuck in the corners.

Great info, Im new to this and it helps greatly. I look fwd to hanging around and learning more...Thanks

check the parking brake. They bell crank seize up is a common problem. Either use the parking brake regularly or just leave it be.

check the air filter, make sure they're not running some fancy k&n filter with oil. The oil dirties up the MAF sensor which means you'll be cleaning it and the truck will run like crap.

How rare is the 2.7 with manual? I can't seem to find any. I find allot of V6 models on CL with "new" engines. I'm shopping around for a new ride. My Frontier w/ the 3.3 is a pita to change plugs. A roomy engine bay would be nice.

2000 was the last year of the 3RZ and the manual transmission, they are hard to find.
