So....

I've flown all around the Rio Puerco (I've got over 600 hours probably chasing cows in that area :) ), but I've never driven there (well, I've driven so far as to climb Cablazon). Neither has Dad.

I've got time off, and he's got Saturday (tomorrow) free.

If a man wanted to go do some exploring out there (my stock suspension faux-Lux, and Dad's FJ-40), where would we go? If anyone else wanted to tag along (or more precisely show us around :) ) we'd be all up for it.

Dan

Dan, Sorry my Saturday is booked with some work around the house (honey-dos) and my wife has a barrel race event I am 'encouraged' to attend at the fairgrounds in the afternoon. Hopefully we can get together in the future for a Puerco run. Have fun - as always - posting pics is good for those of us who are stuck on pavement.

As promised.... a couple of pics.

I'm sure you all recognize this section of the trail.... My faux-lux actually needed three tries to get up it. The faux-lux is shure-footed, but nothing compared to the FJ-40.

Here's a completely unremarkable bunch of rocks on the trail. But I had to get a picture of the faux-lux going over them. Danged IFS just isn't photogenic (either that, or Dad's photography skills aren't as good as mine, or something).

But here's the FJ-40 going over the same exact lame rocks and it actually looks cool doing it! WTF?!?!

The last pic here is a shot of the two of them. Some of these ruts were really, really deep. Also, I had to pee, so I grabbed the camera and snapped away here...

It's really tricky to use the camera while driving! :)

But I learned some things today....

1)My bald tires (100K miles) have got to go
2)Having the stereo play music from the iPod is awesome--no more skipping!
3)Toyota built it with a steering stabilizer for a reason--I really need to put it back on
4)I need to get working getting that IFS out of there, not only would I prefer the SAS (obviously), but then I believe I could go with a full OME setup for the faux-lux as well (I need to do more research on this one)
5)The fire extinguisher mount I made for Dad's FJ-40 worked perfectly, until the extinguisher realized that it could slide out sideways.
6)I need to get crackin' on my HJ more. The cruiser is so much more capable than the faux-lux it's scary.

Fun was had by all.

Dan, very nice pix. Looks like a beautiful place. Looks like a good time was had. You did great on the photographic skills.

Great pics. I have seen your pop's 40 in Tijeras a couple of times. I almost wreck rubber-necking everytime  That is a beautiful truck.

Dan -

Sorry I missed your original invitation for a Puerco run. I was busy all weekend. I'm almost always up for a Puerco run and would be glad to take you guys on a tour sometime, though probably not before Cruise Moab. It always seems there are a million last minute items to get ready before a big trip like that.

Your pics look great. Your dad's got a nice 40 and I like your truck too. It would be even better with a solid axle.

Hope to see you guys on the trail soon!

Evan
