I dismantled my pro winch.
I measured the (bronze?) bushings on the drum and housing.
They show about 100th of an inch of metal still left to wear before reaching the Max. Bore diameter shown in the FSM. I guess it is really half of 1/100th on either side of the bushing.....

Should I replace them anyway?

I wouldn't over think it.... As long as it runs smooth just roll with it...
Mine is slightly worn... outside FSM limits but it doesn't get used every day and will last many more moons...
Just keep it lubricated and all will be good in the world...

Sounds good Calvin.
I was worried when I first got it open.
Just a spoonful of water+ oil came out.
No sign of corrosion or wear though.

Have you found a source for parts? I'm looking for PTO 40 series winch parts (drive line and u joints from PTO to winch).

If you can't locate any make new driveline from drive shafts and CV's... We have done this on our comp truck.... Can get the winch going real fast. and no horrible noises....

The drive line on mine was good except for u joints and bearings.

Yep, have also seen ATV driveshafts & UJ's used to make up PTO winch driveshafts - a bit smaller if space is an issue.

Cheers
Clint

Yes i looked at ATV ones but they charge an arm and a leg here in NZ..... Ended up using the rear CV and drive shafts from an AWD Honda CRV. Got them from a local breakers yard.. And they are not much bigger.......

While you've got it all apart you might consider adding grease fittings to the bronze bushings. I added one to the drum which I can grease when I pull the rope out and one to the right side shaft support. Quick and easy job if you've got it apart anyway.

Hi OZ

it seams that you are will equipped with manuals .
by chance do you have the 80 winch blow pic. ?
I've got one , that am rebuilding , and need some details on the axel bearing and some parts inside as well .

thanks Renago

The shims shown on Oz's manual page 90 got damaged when I took the thing apart.
They had been silicone to prevent leakage and I had to beat the heck out of them to get the cover apart.

The shims are NLA.

Yeah that's an application that's just begging for hylomar instead of a hardening sealant.

The factory tolerance is +\- 0.00" which is impossible to achieve with the factory shims.

Pete

You're right Pete.
I have Hylomar but I'll have to make my own shims.
