Proposed TLCA Mid-Central Chapters Open Event for 2009

Several members of Tornado Alley Cruisers, Tall Corn Cruisers, Green Country Cruisers and Cottonland Cruisers have met and developed an idea for a collaborative Mid-Central States TLCA Open Event for Fall of 2009.

  • We are proposing that the event be held the last W-Su of September or the first W-Su in October. This event could be held every other year, with the normal chapter events being held on even years.
  • We are proposing that this event be held at SMORR (Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch) in 2009. This event could be held at other parks in the area (Flat Nasty, Hannibal Rocks, D-Day, Superlift, etc), should the event be done again.
  • We are proposing that the clubs join forces to form the event committee and sub-committees thus evening the load of putting on such a large event.
  • We are proposing that we do not limit what Toyota based clubs can be involved, we would like to see TTORA and FJC Clubs participating in this event as well.
  • We are proposing that the TLCA help us facilitate and coordinate our efforts in developing and promoting this event.
  • We are proposing that we make an effort to do some philanthropic project at or before the event as a group.
  • We are propsing that we market this as best we can, being inclusive in our efforts to reach not only the hardcore wheelers, but the folks that are new to this sport/hobby and even those that just want to come out and see what it's like and not necessarily wheel.
  • We are proposing that TLCA members would get a discount for early registration for this event.
  • We are proposing that part of the proceeds from the T-Shirt sales will be distributed between the Blue Ribbon Coalition and the Susan G. Koman Foundation
  • We are proposing that this is going to be a great event, that will not only bring our chapters together, but bring families together for a great weekend of TLCA fun!
Please take the time to discuss this with your clubs. If you have any questions, there is a thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/tlca-discuss...ml#post3869018 open for discussion. If your chapter is interested in participating in this, please contact Art Schramm packman73 @ gmail.com to be added to the event mailing list. We will working on this collaboratively online through the mailing list. We would like to get rolling on the marketing of this in the next few weeks, with registration beginning the first of the year.

Our goal here is simple. Bring together those that love their Toyota 4x4's for the common purpose of having family fun and enjoying each other's company.

With Kind Regards,

OK, I'm confused. Is this an open event or just a toyota event only. Compare the two.

Good question, and one that needs to be discussed. My personal opinion, and it's just that "an opinion", is that it's "Open" to "Toyota's" and if you are a TLCA member, you can bring whatever you want...(read Kowboy can bring his Jeep)

Again, this is something that the folks that decide to become involved with it, need to discuss and decide.

Thanks for asking the question, not really sure I answered anything...

Accordin' to the O'ficial TLCA SOP Deal:

"EVENTS DESCRIPTION

1. Hosted Event: The Rubithon is an annual event hosted by TLCA and co-hosted by Association Chapters. The event serves two purposes: to provide family type entertainment and to raise funds for TLCA's General Fund. Chapters that co-host the event shall receive a percentage of the proceeds.

2. Sanctioned Event: An event hosted by a Chapter in which TLCA members participate in a trail ride type event. The event serves to raise funds for the chapter's general fund. Chapters that host a sanctioned event agree to give TLCA a percentage of the net proceeds.

3. Open Event: A trail ride type event hosted by a Chapter which is not TLCA Member or vehicle specific. The event serves to raise funds for the chapter's general fund. Chapters that host an open event agree to give TLCA a percentage of the net proceeds."

The object of this here event is to be a second "hosted" TLCA event ... and there ain't no criteria listed as to TLCA membership status or vehicle type requirements.

On the other hand ... I can plainly bring my jeeper to a TLCA Sanctioned event ... since I am a TLCA member.

... and ANYBODY can bring their jeep to a TLCA Open Event ... since you do not need to be a member ... or have a T'yota.

The only event I know of where I ain't sure if'n I can bring my jeeper is The Toyota Jamboree. This event has no ties to TLCA ... which is a fine statement for the current sorry state of affairs of TLCA (but that's another story). Perhaps Mr. King could clarify for us all if'n such a fine, upstandin' citizen such as myself could actu'ly show up at this event in my jeeper. :hmm:

So there ya go. :grinpimp:

Well, it does say Toyota in the event name... :D

Actually, that's a great question, and one that comes up each year.

EVENT STATUS W/R/T TLCA:

Just to clarify, the Lone Star Toyota Jamboree has been a TLCA Sanctioned event every year except one, and the upcoming event this January is a TLCA Sanctioned event (they took our application and stuck our ad on pg. 39 of TT, so I assume we are good ;)).

The only difference is how we run our Sanctioned Event- it is not to raise money for the Chapter's General Fund, it is to raise money for TMTC [a 501 (c)(3)]. Since all profit goes to TMTC and none remains, there are no proceeds to send to TLCA. This has been agreeable to them in the past (except for one year), and to my knowledge is agreeable now.

VEHICLES PERMITTED:

Here is the official position, as it has been from the outset: "Out of consideration for Toyota (our primary sponsor), only vendor vehicles that are non-Toyota will be permitted on the premises, and they will be restricted to static display either at the Pavilion (a good venue for product display), or at the new Rock Garden near the pavilion (great way to display a vehicle and products in an “off road” setting).

The event is closed everything except Toyota off-road vehicles, and personal tow vehicles. The trails are closed to non-Toyota vehicles except for those vehicles operated by TMTC and their officers in the conduct of their business."

It would really suck for the sponsors to see a bunch of Jeeps, Broncos and whatnot on the trail, when they paid for the mountain to be open for Toyotas and for access to Toyota enthusiasts.

I hope you can understand...

There are two types of vehicles that get sticky:
Toyotas with non-Toyota running gear and non-Toyotas with Toyota running gear.

My approach is simple- in keeping with the spirit of the event, it needs to recognizable as a Toyota. So, an F-Toy like Brandon's, although not really recognizable to the general public, is recognizable as a Toyota-based buggy. Same for Kowboy's Corvette-powered FJ40.

A Toyota-framed and drivetrain built buggy with a Sammi body, or something home-built with a Toyota steering box and Toyota axles would not comply with the spirit of the event or the intent of the policy- which is to protect the Sponsor's investment.

The policy is reasonable and has worked well in the past.. protection of our sponsors investment is what keeps Jambo a viable venue for our sponsors and makes it successful- allowing us to fund our primary cause which is supporting Texas Motorized Trials Coalition in their mission to acquire, develop and operate OHV parks for all of us.

*Disclosure: I was elected to the Board of Directors of TMTC this summer.

So, to answer the Honorable Kowpoke's question: I sincerely hope you come, I hope you are willing to be the Grand Master of Ceremony type-person, I hope you bring your lil' Jeeper w/your trailer, but after understanding our position and what we are trying to accomplish I hope you will not take offense that it is not permitted to access the trails.

I would be honored to have you ride shotgun with me- I owe you a ride anyways after that weekend at the AGR/Wheelin' Ranch. ;)

That and the Taco is short on cupholders so you'd be useful.

Isn't that the weekend that you came back with your ass all black and blew?:D

An excellent response as always Mr. King.

Well organized thoughts presented in a professional manner ... I'd expect nothin' less.

Most Excellent- the gig wouldn't be the same with you and Butch bringing the entertainment. :)

Who the hell would have something like that?...Yuuck!!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll bring the 80 instead.

I've decided some folks are slow and others are just ornery.

Nobody cares what you bring to the party as long as you have a good time. The folks in the know realize that "sanctioned" means one thing, "we got an insurance rider from TLCA and we ain't worried about getting sued 'cause some PITA got their panties in a knot."

The only folks worried about keeping an event "exclusive" are the lame-brains that foolishly boasted on MUD about their plans to go somewhere.

I wouldn't hesitate to drive a jeep, or a scout, or a montero to any event. Folks like me (that don't wheel) are there for the fun and friendship. Folks that wheel are there to drive their $hit. If anyone denies me access to the event, I'll just take my $500 in raffle money someplace else.

ANARCHIST:flipoff:

How far is Missouri?

For me... about eight hours.
I think TLCA needs to send swag packs to the existing events and encourage events to welcome FJCs and Tacomas. Yet another wheeling event in the fall doesn't bode well with me.
Maybe not an anarchist, just ornery and eccentric.
;)
