Proposed TLCA Mid-Central Chapters Open Event for 2009

Several members of Tornado Alley Cruisers, Tall Corn Cruisers, Green Country Cruisers and Cottonland Cruisers have met and developed an idea for a collaborative Mid-Central States TLCA Open Event for Fall of 2009.

  • We are proposing that the event be held the last W-Su of September or the first W-Su in October. This event could be held every other year, with the normal chapter events being held on even years.
  • We are proposing that this event be held at SMORR (Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch) in 2009. This event could be held at other parks in the area (Flat Nasty, Hannibal Rocks, D-Day, Superlift, etc), should the event be done again.
  • We are proposing that the clubs join forces to form the event committee and sub-committees thus evening the load of putting on such a large event.
  • We are proposing that we do not limit what Toyota based clubs can be involved, we would like to see TTORA and FJC Clubs participating in this event as well.
  • We are proposing that the TLCA help us facilitate and coordinate our efforts in developing and promoting this event.
  • We are proposing that we make an effort to do some philanthropic project at or before the event as a group.
  • We are propsing that we market this as best we can, being inclusive in our efforts to reach not only the hardcore wheelers, but the folks that are new to this sport/hobby and even those that just want to come out and see what it's like and not necessarily wheel.
  • We are proposing that TLCA members would get a discount for early registration for this event.
  • We are proposing that part of the proceeds from the T-Shirt sales will be distributed between the Blue Ribbon Coalition and the Susan G. Koman Foundation
  • We are proposing that this is going to be a great event, that will not only bring our chapters together, but bring families together for a great weekend of TLCA fun!
Please take the time to discuss this with your clubs. If you have any questions, please us this thread for an open discussion. If your chapter is interested in participating in this, please contact Art Schramm packman73 @ gmail.com to be added to the event mailing list. We will working on this collaboratively online through the mailing list. We would like to get rolling on the marketing of this in the next few weeks, with registration beginning the first of the year.

Our goal here is simple. Bring together those that love their Toyota 4x4's for the common purpose of having family fun and enjoying each other's company.

With Kind Regards,

Art Schramm

Art, do I even need to reply? Of course I'm in and I would be happy to help with whatever you need help with and I'm sure a good number of ARTTOTA guys would be willing to help as well. Great idea on this event. I will be at Texas Jambo again this year in Jan. as well. Let me know where you need help and I will jump in. SMORR? Mmmmm fresh meat! Never been there. :D

I'm glad this has come about and will help where I can.

I had a thought :idea:after this years GFNwTAC about how to help raise some of the money needed to keep these type of events affordable, a 50/50 drawing. It could be held at the scheduled dinner time as the winner would have to be present and it would be convenient as far as a time to get everyone together in one place.

Art, here's an honest concern. Why would we want to do this in late summer/early fall when most of the midwest/central club events are at this time. Wouldn't april-early june be a better time as it would spread things out. Please seriously consider this. If we are really trying to increase interest and attendance at midwest events, it would be nice to have a three pointed trail plan. A winter run, a spring/early summer event/jamboree and club events in the fall.

I would hate to be forced to choose b/t a central states jamboree and the Tall Corn Cruiser Classic. I think that most of the people we are trying to get to attend have jobs and lives that allow for events that are spaced out rather than grouped together.

Just my $.02

Keep up the good work Art. :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

Weather is a large factor in this part of what is affectionately know as Tornado alley. Very large and strong storms often blow up with no notice. Not a big deal unless you have planned a large outdoor event. Summers are not fun for camping as its to hot. That leaves fall and winter. This is also being considered as an alternative to some of the midwest events instead of along with these events.

One of the hurdles with this is getting the mid-central chapters (Tall Corn Cruisers, Tornado Alley Cruisers, AR-TTORA, etc.) on board to not do their chapter events in 2009, in lieu of working collaboratively to have 1 big event this year, then go back to chapter events in 2010. If this event does come to fruition, and is successful, I think the consensus (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that we could do this collaborative event on odd years, and chapter events on even years.

Part of the thinking in collaborating on this is sharing the load of organizing and planning an event. As you and I, as well as the many others that have planned, organized and held events in the past, it's a lot of work.

The reason for the time of year for this is fairly straight forward.
1. Early Spring/Summer in Southern MO is bad for weather (read tornado's and massive thunder storms)
2. We don't want to try to compete with the large TLCA/TTORA/FJC events (Cruise Moab, GSMTR, Rubithon, FJ Summit, TTORA Takeover, etc.) so the timing of this is based around that as well.

Hope that makes sense and we appreciate your support. :steer:

I understand that. I just thought it would be great to spread things out.... (I don't like Tornados either. They came to close for comfort earlier this year.) In looking at the event calendar, there seems to be a few opportunities earlier that would miss the other big events out East or West.... (You know the old phrase, 20% do 80% of the work, I'm trying to help change that....:D)
