Well, I finally have my truck back after the rust repair saga.

They used a new OEM gasket on the front windshield, but I think they missed a step as it was leaking in the bottom corners when I washed/detailed it yesterday  The shop also seems to have broken the trim piece behind the rear slide windows - looks like a black vent

My question - I've seen reference to 'double gluing' the gasket inside and out and the FSM seems to show this as well. How can I tell if this was done? On the outside, I can pull up the edge of the trim/gasket and don't seem to see any sealer - am I looking in the right place?

I guess I'll take it back on Monday and tell them that the window install does not seem to be done to factory specs and is leaking (= rust again if this keeps up) and ask them to replace the trim (or give it to me at their cost - I happened to see their invoice from Toyota - mega discount - shows the profit margin of parts/service!) - make sense?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers, Hugh

CDN_Cruiser,

I just had my windshield replaced too. The old one was leaking at both lower corners. I spoke to the technician before he started work about these windshields leaking if they aren't install according to the FSM instructions. I let him use my FSM to install the new OEM glass and gasket. He sealed the glass inside the gasket, and then sealed the gasket to the truck. NO LEAK!

Is there something different about Cruiser windshields? I've had quite a few replaced on various cars and never a leak.

That's on the outside I'm assuming? I looked at the FSM and there are two steps where they apply glue (1) glue window to gasket, install window and then (I think) (2) glue around the outside. If you look under the trim piece of the gasket on the outside of the window, do you see some type of sealant?

I'm sort of wondering if I need to pull and replace the gasket or if they just need to glue it? I'm also debating about just going to a dealership and having them do it (properly)....I don't want to guy to just grab some random glue and try and 'fix' the problem...

CDN_Cruiser,

Yes, the sealant is on the outside of the vehicle. Your's may just need the exterior sealant applied.

I'd talk to the guys that installed it and see if they used sealant. If they did not, let them see your FSM on how and where to apply sealant.

Thanks. After a bit of an epic battle with the place (everything from 'they allways leak a little' to 'it's not our problem it's the window guy's problem' - maybe but I piad YOU!) The guy came back, I have him the relevant print of the FSM and 1 hour later it's sealed.

So hopefully all is well.
