I'm still have some problems with my carb, 750 Edelbrock Performer.

I can swap my carb for a propane setup. Can't afford fuel injection right now.

What does everyone think? One of my buddies is running propane and loves it.

Street Use

My cruiser still sees some street use.

I was wondering about mileage with the propane, I heard and read about power loss, poor fuel economy. Not that I'm too concerned about fuel economy, I just do not want to spend $10 bucks every time I run down to the local store.

around here the up in fuel consumption is offset by the lower cost, so burning propane seems to balance out with gas

I concur. It's not the mileage, or the power, it's the lack of availability if you are running propane only. Most conversions I have seen are dual fuel. Have you looked into that?

You can tweak the motor/tuning to offset the power loss and economy issues.
Dual fuel works well - get a cheap carb for petrol, run LPG off road.
Power loss/economy is only about 10% loss - off road LPG is SO much smoother is easily makes up for it.

Not a problem

I will probably get a hose made up and fill from my tank at home.

I don't think power loss is an issue. If a carb is not right, your not maximizing power/economy anyway.

I actually gained a little (from what it feels like) when switching to 'pane, but my carb was worn out.

If your supply is good, go pane.. re-curve the dizzy, and you'll get some of that power loss back.

I just ordered my propane set up from www.propaneguy.com Way cheaper than those guys. His kit comes with everything minus the LPG tank and hi pressure line to the fuel lock off valve.

Advancing Timing

How much degrees does these kits recommend advancing timing?

Propane Guy was telling me over the phone that for start up have the timing set to 10 degrees. And then hook up a vacuum advance line to have it jump up to 18 degrees after start up. Reason being that propane is slower burning and high octane (around 104). I don't know if that is for all engines or just for the 2f.

Oh and the spark plug gap should be around .32-.35.

I know the Q Jet does good, but I'm not spending another dime on a carb.

I'd rather just save my pennies for a new motor. I would love to have a fuel injected big block.

If I had it to do over, I would have just bought a one ton chevy. A buddy just gave $2500.00 for a 89 Chevy 3500. Dana 70 rear with a TBI 454.

You want the advance in sooner, but with less total at higher RPM's... there was a good thread on the PBB about it.

I bet if you google franzh.texas.net you could find some good stuff too.
