Thinking about doing a propane conversion on the 40. Found this website gotpropane.com. Obviously the tanks and getting them filled is not a big deal for me, but does anyone else have any experience with running propane?

Remember this is strictly a trailtruck, no street duty. To me the biggest down side is giving up the bed space in a already cramped truck. Already talked to Michael over at ACC and got his thoughts, so what do you guys think?

that's the website I was going to link you to but you got it already. I did a little reading when gas was $4+ a gallon and about the only thing I really remember was that most people experienced about 10% loss of power over normal gas.

propane has a higher octane than gas, so you have to change your timing in order to get the benefits of the gas. look over at some uk sites they run dual systems on that side of the pound more than us. propane is cheaper than gas and you will get the benefit of being able to run at extreme angles without worrying about the engine running out of fuel. if i did not get a diesel propane would have been my second choice. I would run a dual system because not every where you wheel has a place that fills propane tanks.

Not really doing it to save money/better fuel mileage, even though the propane and tanks would be free for me. Really want it for running better/not stalling and when it does stall, it would be eaiser to recrank. I have just never seen anyone personally do it with a 2F. I know a few people on MUD have done it, I would just like to know propane lives up to the hype before I spend the money and go thru the hassle of converting everything.

The conversion looks simple enough and I know how to advance timing, but still want to do more research.

Propane should run good on a 2f. there are a ton of forklifts that have simple engines like the 2f that run off propane. Some people convert using forklift parts. free tanks and gas would be worth a try.

Search the old LCML. Seems like there was a lot of info at one time. Interesting that some of the weedeater companies are making versions that you screw the bottle into the end....suppose to burn clean.

maybe Natural Gas?

Have you thought of Natural Gas Conversion? I know you said cost per gallon wasn't an issue but you could actually have a fill station installed in your garage. The only reason I brought it up is I had checked with my bro inlaw who works for a ng company in Florida and he was telling me it was running about $1.27 a gallon down there. For those of you who would consider it for the daily drive vehicle, it burns cleaner than gasoline which should make it no problem to pass emissions tests.
Anyone else thought of using this?

Haven't updated this thread lately, but John hooked me up with a buddy of his who works on forklifts and we got my truck converted. Took it for a little shake down run, and it ran great, better than I could have asked for. Never did stall all day and I followed John and Josh around.

Highly recommend the propane. We road for about 5 or 6 hours. After I weigh the tank tomorrow, I'll report back how much propane I burned.

Pretty simple conversion. I'll take pictures if anyone needs to see something specific.

I burned about 2/3 of a 30lb tank of propane in 5 1/2 hours of riding and being such a small group we were moving pretty quickly. I still think I can get a full days worth of riding out of a tank. 30 lbs of propane is only about 6 or 7 gallons.

Here is my low pressure fuel light.

And did some fender trimming.
