Project "Sparkle Wrench"....1972 TLC 40 and all his rusty friends!!!

I got the body cart mostly done today. It took over 5 hours, but it was pretty hot (98 degrees at the shop). I took my fair share of breaks, but was pretty happy with the outcome. I need to make a trip to the local steel supply joint and get some tube to slip inside the 1 1/2" tube this week. This project cost me all of $5.00 for the casters I bought at a flee market a few weeks back.

I finally picked up the tub from my local Fastenal on Friday and finished up the cart on Sunday. I also managed to get the cowl separated from the tub since I will be using the cowl from the '72 rig. I still need to clean up the area since I rough cut it from the cowl, and I'll have to do the reverse for the '72 tub to get them ready to merge together.

I picked up some parts last weekend. The seller acquired them from a former tenant who was late on the rent, and needed to get the parts rigs removed. Inevitably, the tenant cut up the parts rigs and scrapped the drivetrains and remaining parts(DAMN YOU!!). The items I got were two complete cowls with windshield frames/motor assemblies, wiring harnesses, clusters, dash pads etc. I also got a decent hood with only minor rot on the inner lip which mounts to the grill, a roll bar, 3sp with t/case and a bunch of small miscellaneous parts.

Wasn't too bad of a score IMO since I'll part out what I do not need to offset the purchase price and keep the items I need for Sparkle.

Cool.

Don't forget that I need some of that sheet metal. I could also use that lower left-side dash pad, the wiper arms, and the sun visor arms if you don't need them. ;)

Heading up tomorrow to get your sections cut off. I can give you the sun visor arms, and possible the left side lower pad, but the arms are for my rig. I got rid of the other ones with that quack that screwed me on the deal.

No problem about the wipers or anything else that you need for your truck. I just thought I'd ask. :) Thanks.

It's still difficult to believe that a cruiser guy would rip you off that way. Hopefully, he'll get paid back in spades.

One cowl down, and one more to go. What a day I had dismantling this cowl. It was 106 degrees in the shop with 98% humidity, and I am well out of practice in the "working in the heat" department. The harness fought me, but I rained supreme. Not too many noteworthy pics since I was a man on a mission, and any additional effort would weigh down my already sweat logged shirt. Oh I can't wait 'til the fall.

Got a few hours at the shop today. I started tearing out the right side 1/4 panel. It went sort of smooth except for my spot weld cutter was pretty worn. I need to pick up a couple new ones over the weekend. These are the little items one never factors into a build or if he/she does it always exceeds the budget allotted for such items.

Anyway, it was a bit grueling having to tear down another 1/4, but once I get past the stage I got the other tub to things should start moving right along. Let's stress the word "should".

Got the ¼ pretty much cut off today. I also started to cut the rear sill cap out since I have decided to replace the entire section. I will only have to repair two sections of the rear sill itself but the cap was toast. I was pissed because my can of weld-thru primer was useless. I shook it up for about 15 minutes and I know I did all the necessary steps it recommends after using it. The stuff isn’t cheap so I make sure I follow the rules, but I couldn’t for the life of me get it come out properly. UUUGGGHHHH!!!

.............and at last a vid.

More cutting, grinding, drilling etc. today. It wasn't an enormously productive day since I did the oil in my wife's vehicle as well as rotate the tires and give it a wash, but I did get the rocker cut out and managed to cut the 1/4 and rocker off of the old tub.

I am heading down to Ocean City, NJ for the rest of the week with the fam, but I'll be at it next week.

Mate......your work......your can do attitude its a real eye opener.
I will have to rethink what I'm replacing with new and consider I may be able to be repair some of it.

What happened to the sign you made?
Thank Billy!!

The sign is still in the shop. If you look at some of the recent vids you can see the point of the arrow in the background. I only need to paint it and make some mounting brackets, but I currently have nowhere to hang/display it. Once I do I will be sure to show a vid or two of it hanging proudly in my workshop. I have ALOT of hours tied up in stitching that sign together.
