Here is the story:

The original Rescue Wagon was my 93 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. It has pulled more Jeeps and Toy Pickups off of trails that I have lost count. The dodge blew up its tranny at 75mph and has been sitting every since.

A few days ago I picked up a 72 FJ40 frame and body. I plan on using the dodge suspension, Dana60 front, Dana70 rear, NP205, and of course the Cummins. Also I will be using Humvee wheels and Mag Runflats.

I will post pics in a few days.

Also I am looking for input on Trannys and any info from anyone who has put a 6BT into an FJ40.

James

IMO. that's the perfect marriage '93 Dodge CTD with the drivetrain you mention plus an LC body. What kinda tranny blew up? I have the Getrag 5 spd in my '93 W350. Are there other things wrong with your's? This is gonna be my next buildup w/ a 6BT, D60, D70 rear steer, TH400, Atlas. I got all my drivetrain for my '78 LC except for the tranny. I'm gonna be runnin the same Humvee wheels too. Since this is your thread I'll let you post up your pics first........ Oh yeah, send a PM to 5.9CTD on Pirate4x4, he's a Cummins tech & should be able to help as he's done this conversion in a 40.

The Gutbag(aka Getrag 360) decided to eat itself. I was even running a quart over on the fluids. Got about 220K out of the tranny.

I was thinking of something along the line of the Turbo 400 as well, but I am a little worried about overall length.

Yeah, I got 230K on my d.d. right now, we'll see how long it lasts... How'd you like the super **smooth** ride those front leafs give?
I'm planning at least 110"-115" w/b. Box the he!! outta the front frame & tube/ dovetail the rear. You using the Cruiser frame or goin' from scratch?

Haven't played with FJ's much but from what Ive been told I planned on using the frame with a few mods for the extra weight up front.

Sounds like a cool setup.

One suggestion - cut the runflats off of the magnesium inserts - keeping only the beadlock portion. I thought with my 44" TSL's I would not risk cutting the sidewalls of the tires, but even at 10psi, I cut the sidewalls on a couple tires.

A 12" 8-10TPI sawzall blade works fine.

I appreciate the info Ed. When I bought the Mag runflats they were already cut as you suggested.

Thanks

Use a 727 or a 518.

No adapters required if you use a diesel tranmission.

Thanks for the tranny info. I will probably take a look on The Turbo Diesel Registry and see if I can find one.

I've got an A518 in my rig (L-R 109), behind a Cummins. It's not exactly great, the dodge diesel trannies are known to be kind of lame. If I were you I would be looking at an NV4500, you'll be surprised at how much power the auto saps up. If you do end up swapping out and you want to sell the Getrag for a core I would be interested. Good luck, ain't nothing like a trail truck with Cummins power.

killing me!!!!! sure you dont what to sell the whole 93 to me :)

if you do not need OD stay with the 727 and 205, you can find them
and some built 727s as well.

you can do GM convesion stuff, and run the 465, th400 to 205s.

I can pull measurements on the 518 to 205 as one is sitting in thy rig outside, they are pretty dang long.

BTW where is 6bt in fj40 guy at? love those videos he has. he was 6bt 727 205 i believe.

LOL on those front leafs, so bad a bump gave me death wobble (caster), so i went 2.5 skyjackers never look back again.

BTW 61,000 on her :)

I'll sell you the 93 for 1 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!:D

I'm on a tight budget so the less adapters and other odds and ends to make this marriage work the better it wil be.

Don't get me wrong the th400 and 205 would be pretty rock solid and with the Diesel and the Dana 60 & 70, the Cruiser would have a solid setup under it.

stick a trans back in her, and keep her going.

find a total to do it with :) p pumper

interested if you sell her broken for say 999,999 less then previous listed
price, LOL. or if you do part, LET ME KNOW

Picked up a 2001 V10 Ram 2500 Quad Cab, So I don't need the 93 for working on my little ranch here in cheyenne. I've also been wanting a Rig that is strictly a Trail Rig so when I go to MOAB and break like I always do, I can just trailer it home.

What parts do you want when I take the 93 apart? I curretly plan on using the Dana60, Dana70, Front and Rear leafs, Stearing colum, and 6BT. I think Fromage from this board wants the Getrag for a core.

V10 damn you got robbed, stock up on crank cores, pennies for fuel and lower end rebuilds. Reason why they quit on them :) you went the wrong way. Spend $800 more less and put the trans back in the 93.

They give away trucks with blown v10s not worth fixin. BTW let me guess
yours has a new/rebuilt engine and that is why you purchased?

I would be interested in EVEYRTHING send me off an email.
