Wednesday's progress....

it looks like I might be painting the cruiser while I have it stripped down, it really needs it. I am leaning toward a single stage solis for ease, either in freeborn red or tan/beige. So anyway, the strip down continues....

I have pulled most of the lights, chrome and badges from the exterior, doors and windows are next.

The grey interior is coming out, I will be using the brown interior from the HJ.

If thats the body stiffening stuff I've see on minis I've always wondered how a Truck would get around without all that cast heavy stuff but you got Compression Ignition............................

Ever heard of anyone taking that stuff out?

Just wondering.............

.........Rusty??? Looks good to me. But I'm in Michigan. We have opted to destroy our vehicles over time (salt) instead of all at once (crashing on slippery roads).

oh it's rusty alright.

i'll vouch for that, ha ha

found a place to get it painted yet? or are you goin to shoot it yourself?

just remember: if you do a good job painting it then kyle and garrick are going to want you to paint a lot of stuff, like the cooler cruiser and the gti, ha ha

have a good weekend bud...might come up from columbia after the wedding saturday night, haven't made up my mind yet.

If you are going to sell any of those interior parts, plse let us know. Willing buyer here in Calif. for all those nice looking panels, seat belt receivers, etc. ;)

I made a little more progress this weekend. I got the rest of the interior stripped out except for the healdiner which will be a PITA. The headliner is coming out because it's ripped, and it's cloth. I will plan to use vinyl headliner from my HJ. I also drained the fuel tank and pulled the exhaust, and a few more things from the engine bay.

Next I plan to strip the firewall of brake/fuel lines etc., pulling the glass and headliner, and cleaning the underbody/firewall. I am also going get quotes for paint from some local shops.

EDIT: should this be moved to the new Expedition board?

Yep

Glad it did. I probably would've missed it otherwise.

Sounds good

Whats the plans for the interior? Or to be more specific ,will it be onboard accommodation with the rear seat removed?

For paint,I would go with a 2 pack white for ease of patch ups. The beige would be my 2nd choice though.

interior/accessories will be "phase two" of the build. Right now I am focusing on the chassis and powertrain. So until then the folding rear seatds and rear quarter class will stay and I will use my current rear cargo drawers (which need finishing), and make a modular sectiions for over the rear seats when folded to create a level loading surface.

future plans, however, will include removable rear bucket seats, and integrated, full-height storage compartments.

I don't have much of an update right now, been too busy. Work finishes up next week and I start classes again on the 22nd, so I've been getting ready for all that. Plus i have a bad cold and it's been over 100 degrees here this week.

I think i have decided on Maaco for the paint job. Their quality looked decent and for $1300 I can get the whole thing any color i want in urethane single stage (4 year warranty). Plus, they are less than a mile away and can have it done in 4-5 days. Considering I don't have ANY painting equipment, i couldn't do it for less and it would take forever. Since the body will be completely stripped, and it's on a frame I won't be using, I am not worried about overspray or runs.

So, I still need to finish stripping and degreasing the firewall and underbody, pull the glass, and do a little straightening to get ready for paint. When classes start back I should have more time to work on it....
