OK, starting my build thread now, pretty excited!

Pics will be uploaded later today or tomorrow. Gov computer won't let me post from photobucket.

Sorry if I ramble a little bit and jump from issue to issue, it's been known to happe.

This is what it started as: Bone stock 72 FJ40, 2.5 lift, 33 TSL's, welded rear, trimmed rear, all but 3 inches of front fenders gone. Roll cage, rock lights, normal trail stuff here and there.

Planned to put a 350/auto/d300 or np205 with a centered rear end. Just so happened, the poor old 300K 1F motor threw a rod 4 days before scheduled tear down. It was good to me, never gave me any issues other than oil burning/leaking. RIP!! Started tearing her down, now it is just the front axle, frame, tub.

Couple days ago, started asking around for a centered V6 rearend, got a couple lines on a few. Got crazy lucky and got in touch with a guy that lives close on a 3 link'd setup. It was built by TTF Fab for Easy Rick's comp buggy before he went to hi9's. I wasn't planning on running links, just SOA, but hey, why not??

Got the rearend out yesterday, starting to get excited! I am thinking that it is probably a good idea to cut the back of the tub off at the seams to make it easier to deal with the rearend, then re-attach it later and cut/dovetail where needed.

This is the overall goal: 350/th400/np205(i have these parts)twin sticked, 3 link rear, SOA front, 4.88's, ARB's if $$$ allow, 37x14 Iroks, and some tube here and there. Probably boatside it a little bit, and redo the cage.

Kinda wondering about the front leafs. I have several stock 40 springs laying around, and picked up a set of Wagoneer front leafs from a buddy. They seem to have the same arch as the 40 springs, but are of course longer, and seem super flexy. Which should I use?? I wanna keep this thing as LOW as possible, with the overall goal being parking it in the garage with 37's.

Ideas, comments, advice, whatever you want to call it....I want it! But please read the title to the thread, I am in the miltary, therefore, I don't have a metric $h1t ton of $$$$$ laying around. I don't mean cut corners where safety or quality issues come into play though.

Pics will come later tonight, and sorry for the long read.....just needed to get it all on the table.

In advance.....:beer::beer:

nice target .. what are your target for the rear axle . .? mini rear centeres or something bigger ?

My 81 disc stays up front SOA/C & T'd.

The rear I am getting is complete(minus 3rd member) It's a V6 rear, shock brackets already on it, link tabs, comes with links, my choice of a few different 3rd upper Y links that he has, several spare stock shafts, one chromo shaft, and some other brake parts here and there. Pretty sweet deal for sure. Just have to slide it under mine and get with the link crew I guess. I know a few guys that run 3 links in their comp buggies that have said they would help me out and school me up on the technologies higher than leafs.

What say yall about the waggy leafs up front??? Good idea or no???

Good Luck! Let me know if you need a hand or anything......

Thanks bud, I'll definately be hitting you up!!

This started as a SOA cruiser with some goodies on 37's, and in the last few days, it turned into a half cruiser/half buggy.....CRUGGY!!

Got some stuff done since I picked up the rearend last night. Did some preliminary cutting and measuring and generally checking stuff out. Got the back of the tub off and the very rear of the frame/bumper section.

This is at 105". I want around 103/104. Looks funny with the little 33's on it.

And 1 of the backend. Trying to see where the rear of the frame is going to be. Got more cutting to do, but not bad for one morning.

Ha..... mine started out as a completely stock unmolested rusty 71 that "I'll just fix it up a little and wheel it" to SOA on 36's, then 37's, now 40's with auto and 350.....and I replaced the entire rear quarter panels to make sure it was straight with a clean fenderwell and now have to pretty much comp cut it to fit the 40's with the axle pushed back 5". 20 hours of work down the crapper. hundreds of hours to go....
