Can you post a pic of the engine bay? I'm curious what the 4.7 looks like without the plastic. My dad has a 2000 Tundra that I may be getting one day :p

Sweet build by the way, this is the same way I want to build my Tacoma when I can afford it. Any link to your Tundra build?

Hey, is that a safari snorkel or a different brand? I wasnt aware that they had it for a gx, p/n for it pls?
I think it might be the 4Runner one.

I like the lift, it's left you with a fair angle of approach.
Any plans to lose the running boards?

Probably will keep the running boards, don't plan on wheeling this just expedition and light trails in desert and in those cases the running board help keep the mud and stuff off the rest of it.

Cheers,

Michael

Just wanted to let everyone know Interco tire is still in business. I talked with them today. They transfered all their tire molds to one location and while resetting the molds they got behind on production.:)

Well that is great news, did they mention why stopped answering the phones for a while. Well I will certainly go back to Truxus tires :D

Ah sure I will provide that to you. First here is the secret for you the GX 470 is the prado 120 series so much so that the Safari snorkel is the Land Cruisers Prado 120 series snorkel that is offered. No extra mods are needed at all just install as you would on prado and you are all set everthing lines up even the template to cut the holes. :D

Ok I will you the other information you need to know, you want to make sure to oder the "Petrol" version for the prado 120 series, the airbox on the prado 120 with 4.0l V6 is the same as the one on the GX470 the safari part number is SS186HF and they usually have them in the USA. I oder my ARB stuff from Proffitt cruisers since they are friends of mine and a dealer I don't mind letting them have my business. Plus if you use them and mention you want something I bought John will not think you are crazy since I usually ask for the oddest stuff ARB has.

Cheers,

Michael

Michael, what other modification lay a head for the 120?

I am not sure what else I have in store for the Lex, I have one more item to take care of and that is the transmission, as good as the A750 is, with a new valve body it will be even better.

Then for a while I think my sister will be stealing it from me until I sell her 96' SC FZJ80.

Cheers,

Michael

Did you order a new prado grille or simply just swap out the emblem? haha I might do that grille change to my moms gx but dont know if she'll be happy with that haha

I just put a new emblem in place of the Lex one. The prado grill is completely different, the front fenders, headlights everthing is different on the prado.

Cheers,

Michael

I put the new Wholesale automatics Valve body in my A750 and man what a difference :D. That is the best shifting Automatic cruiser I have ever driven, Rodney out did himself on the latest generation valve body for the A750. He had me send back my enventory for the A750 and replaced with updated Valve bodies they just finished and the old version from Wholesale was really good but the new one blew me away. If you want to anything to your Gx (or cruiser with the A750 5 speed in it) I stronly recommend you at least upgrade the Valve body in the transmission you will not believe the difference. Anyone in the San Diego that wants to drive one and feel the difference you are more than welcome while I have it down here (for the next week).

Cheers,

Michael

Diggin it... Subscribed!

Nice to see another GX build as there aren't too many of them.

I like the snorkel which is something I have been considering. Glad to know the V6 model works for us.

My build thread is in my signature if you are interested.

Here is mine.

I looked at your build as I was doing mine, very nice. I have to tell you our Wholesale Automatics Valve body for your A750F will blow you aware, shift as quick as paddle shifters on a Porche. Not to mention better shifting pattern, lower temps, better towing capacity, etc.... When you are ready or if you are ever in San Diego (ok right now my Lexus my sister has in Modesto) you have to take mine for a drive and feel the difference for yourself.

Where did you get the Black Pearl Emblems? :hillbilly:

Off of EBay. Let's see the Prado emblem came from Saudi and the Toyota Emblems came from East Coast, the front one came from Montana. I just search all of it out on eBay.

Michael

So I was all set to take this on an expedition down to Baja and then I got sick and was unable to go, my friends decided they would take my Tundra instead (that had been setup for Expedition and had gone on that trip in the past).

Next my sister came to visit and I am selling her 80 series for here, long story short she tool my lexus back wit her until the 80 series sell and we get her a new ride.

That being said I have to make a few changes since she will not be taking it on expeditions.

I ended up putting a small lift on the this, Dobinsons 2" in the front with new Dobinsons shocks all around, I made the small adjustment to the airbags in the rear just to level everything out.

I also put the stock wheel back on it but with some new 32" tall Coopers, this is more street civil and gave me back about 4mpg on the fuel economy.

Here are some shots of the finished product (for now) including a few of the Wholesale Automatics Vavle body install on the A750F.

Very nice. Been looking at the GX470 but was'nt sure howa build would go. Following yours for sure. Thanks for sharing. When it comes to suspension, does it share the same components of other 120 platforms? Same year 4RNR Icon coilovers and Camburg UCA would fit?
