The rear windshield wiper on the wifey's 80 is all rusty. I removed the black plastic cover for the nut, and removed the nut. When I tried to remove the arm it wouldn't budge. I even took a rubber mallet to it to free it up. Didn't budge.

what am I missing on the removal here? I'd like to take it off to sand it down and re-paint it.

You need a bigger hammer :D
No its a taper fit with teeth .
just rock it a little with the nut loose and it should pop off .

good luck as mine just get loose by themself and I have tighten the nut every year or so after winter

Maybe I'll try some penetrating lube on it too.

I really reefed on it pretty hard. Hard enough I thought I was going to break it! I be the rust has seeped into the joint a bit and is welding the two halves together.

Doc,
be careful with penetrant next to you nice rear hatch paint.
but koffer is right given some persuasion it will come out. just maybe not with a BBBFH remember thats plastic that it mounts to.

You rotated the arm out (away) from the window, to relieve the bind at the bolted connection.. right? Should come right off then.

One of hose two leg round battery terminal pullers might get it off. I wouldn't whack it TOO hard with a hammer though !

Yeah, did that. Nothing happened.

I'll give it another try tonight.

Thanks guys. Came right off this time. Go figure.

Rust-oleum gloss black is drying as I type. Yes, I cleaned it up with a very nice dremel attachment first.
