Hi! I recently aquired a 91 landcruiser and had to have to front differential seals replaced. Afterwards the mechanic took it for a test drive and it started making a grinding noise and the rear axle locked up. The only way he could get it to move was to lock the center diffrential. Any ideas on what is going on??? There have been no leaks from the transfer case, etc..

If it drove fine before the work, I would look at the front end, also don't know how locking the center diff would make anything better if the rear was locked up...............am sure there are plenty of others with a lot more experience then me that can chime in but I did my front end a couple months ago and don't see how you could mess that up enough to cause problems???????? So are you now driving it with the center diff locked..............if so I would not unless it is very slow to another shop..............where are you located?

Perhaps he locked the center diff when he thought it was unlocked.
