I am trying to wire up LED tail/brake/turn lights on the back of a 78 fj40, the problem comes in when the turn signals are used if the brake is on with the turn signal the turn signals will not work, but every thing else works any ideas on how to wire this up?

This may not be the answer you’re looking for but is it a two stage light? Stop/Tail/Turn with three wires or does it have two wires? If it is a STT w/ three wires it's a simple tap into the old run the new and ground the third. Sounds to me like you only have a one stage light, therefore it can only perform one task at a time unless you use some relays...

You need a trailer convertor to switch from the stock Toyota 3-light setup to a 2-light setup. $10-15, avail at Walmart and other fine establishments.

You may also need an electronic-type flasher, instead of a stock-type. The low resistance of the LED's can cause issues.

you can also buy some resistors. I had the same problem. I picked up two resistors from ebay for a grand total of $8 and wired them into the flasher, works like a champ.

so the turn signals work until you press the brake right? I had the same problem and it ended up being a ground issue. I wasn't shifting to LED's, but sounds the same.
