Anybody have any experience with ProComp MTs? How do they compare with BFG MTs in terms of wear, ride, traction, etc?

They definitely wear faster and chip easier than bfg m/t's.

devo

The tread is pretty soft, so they wear quickly. I always thought they had pretty good traction. They are very, very weak in the sidewalls. An added bonus tho, they all have little depressions to screw in studs for ice racing

I would pick the BFG over the procomp m/t

And unless you wheel in a lot of mud, check out the goodyear MTR

I guess I was misinformed, cause I had been told by others that the PRo comp wore pretty well. But I guess since they're about the same price it's hard to beat the BFG.

Actually the bfg mt is pretty easy to beat. Its called the kumho road venture mt. http://www.off-road.com/jeep/products/kumho/ and http://www.off-road.com/jeep/products/kumho/index2.html
It rides better and will not wear as fast as the bfg mt. Offroad and in the snow the kumho mt has better traction. The kumho mt is also 30 bucks cheaper. Check the www.tirerack.com and compare them No one gives these a chance because their not as big of a name as bfg but I guarentee if you try a set you won't be dissapointed
P.S. No affiliation with Kumho

I have had both procomp and bfg and bfg's are better in my opinion. Their wear is less than procomp. BFG's are Stronger. You don't think procomp would be less expensive for no reason? Yeah spend the extra money and go with bfg. Procomps suck and the only other people that will tell you otherwise is 4wheel parts because they get paid more to sell procomp stuff because it is their main company they sell for.

I'm with Mac on this one. Also HIGHLY reccommend the TrXus MT's.

I ran a set of Pro Comp MT's. They seemed ok and when they started getting worn I thought that my rig was just getting old and needed some shocks. I switched to MTR's and I could not believe the difference. The rig was smooth as glass. I saved one of the Pro Comps for a spare but never mounted it on a rim. I can roll it down the driveway and it makes noise! Out of the tires I have run #1 would be MTR's, #2 BFG Muds, #3 BFG All terrain, #4- but dont buy them- Pro Comp Muds.

DO YOU KNOW WHY?

Did you have any tire pulls?

Some Pro Comps develope tire pulls and bulges in thier tread, thats what causes the crappy ride......mine did the same thing.......and no, you cant see the bulge unless the tire is inflated

common problem with COOPER TIRES

I have to second the Kumhos. I had BFG MTR and when the time came to change them I went with the Kumhos (short on cash). I think the Kumhos are better in snow and mud and they wear just as well as the BFGs. The only thing I don't like about them is the noise after they are down to 50% tread but for $30 less per tire I can live with it. One more thing, the sidewalls are super strong.

I thought the better DD tire BFG .. by far .. ! Rocks and DD MTR are good choice, and the best mud MT normal tires, General Grabber .. awesome .. at 16 lbs in my TLC .. actualy I have MTR are good ones to DD, but in mud sucks .. !

Have a set of P-Comp ATs ( 35x12.50) , 'lumpy bastids' . . .

Had a set of 31x10.50 Grabbers...darn good tire...
...weren't in 35x12.50s when I was shopping...

Will be replacing p-comps with BFGs...

Check out the Dunlop Mud Rover, also a great tire for the money.

What about the new Pro Comp X-terrains? They say the sidewalls are thicker. They look like good tires.

I have a buddy who races buggys in the CORR series. He is sponsored by Kumho and he runs their tires on everything, his buggy, F350 tow vehicle, FJ40, and his wifes Vehicross. He swears by them, but I suppose that may be because he gets them free or cheap. Kumho is a big sponsor in the CORR series and the big trucks run the 35s. I have seen them laying around the pits and they look to wear well. I have wheeled with him and the 35s on his FJ40 seem to do really well, and they clean out the mud well. Im thinking of getting the Kumho ATs in 33x12.5 for the FJ60 myself.
