I was looking for ideas for a privacy curtain. I need something to attach to the hatch when it is open. I was planning on putting a porta potty on my cargo basket attached to the rear hitch. I need a privacy curtain to hang off the hatch when it is all the way up and the lower hatch still closed. Maybe a shower curtain with powerful magnets turned upside down so the magnets attach to the metal. This is for the wife, not me. Most of the women's restrooms are not that nice where we travel and with covid this makes more sense for her. It would also be nice to have for a changing area at the river or beach.

Now that I got over my urge to make fun of this... Check out some of the "van life" ideas on pinterest/instagram or maybe just google. I saw one where they had a shower curtain hanging from the hatch on a hula hoop for outdoor showering. You could do something similar.

Edit: you could also make a square out of PVC pipe and elbows, to make more area? Hang a shower curtain on rings from that...

I know. I rather post up on a fallen tree. There are a lot of crowded trails in and around Austin that don't have restrooms so it would be nice. Plus some of the public restrooms at the parks are closed because of covid.

I might try to get some plastic hooks with double-sided tape and attach them to the inside of the hatch. Then hang the curtain. Maybe I will add a shower for the beach trips.

This is NO JOKE. I had to satisfy my wife that I would figure out the "bathroom situation".
No bathroom no trips/overlanding. Period.
Short of a fully equipped travel trailer we're going to try this or something like it.

This one alternative:

I was in the same situation regarding overlanding... I ended up with an Annex for my RTT that will do the same job with more room. Definitely not something that is a quick setup, but it will do the job without having to pack yet another thing into the LC.

Have one like this, works great for privacy/shower duty.

Takes all of 15 seconds to set up, about a minute to put away.

I know you said you wanted to hang it from the hatch but if you have a roof rack this thing is dual purpose and looks very easy to set up and take down. I was thinking about getting one for myself after the last trip we took. Wifey thinks its a dream probably a game changer for her.

I have the same and much prefer these lightweight portable units. Allows one to set it up for shower, dressing, potty, whatever. More importantly, could set it up away from the car for some measure of privacy as necessary.

While a stand-up tent vestibule would obviously provide privacy, after MUCH discussion we think we want a way to separate the "potty" room from the tent/tent-vestibule and everything else. Think "portable outhouse". It's just going to have to wait until the CC isn't maxxed out following paint film, Tow Pro elite and other stuff we just did to our LC. I wish I was born rich instead of brilliant and good looking.

For privacy on a budget...

We did that for years until I played a cruel joke while we were out deer hunting one winter near her family farm in PA.
We'd been out since 5AM and it's now 9AM and COLD.

Her: Hey I gotta go.
Me: OK- grove of pine trees over there...leave your rifle I'll wait.
Her: You'll tell me if somebody's coming right?
  • Note: We're 10 miles from nowhere. There is NO ONE around.
Me: Well I don't think...
Her: JUST TELL ME IF SOMEONE COMES AROUND.
Me: OK.
  • She goes to the grove of pine trees, disappears.
Me: 30, 29, 28...3, 2 1 ... SOMEBODY'S COMING!!!

She never forgave me.

I found this Kwikroom but our hatch is a little different on the 200. I think I can make something similar with a shower curtain or tent fly.

Wouldn’t that just make every private...um...sound...and...well...other sensory “factors”...waft right into the truck while everyone waits?

Or...
Suppose you’re fixing lunch on the tailgate...

This^ We thought portable outhouse perhaps 30 ft away if there's room. There's a reason real in-ground outhouses are located...ummmm...not near the front door.

We've camped in trailer parks for many years (we're starting over looking for a new trailer, 'nuther story) and even vents on trailer rooftops sometimes cause well, a stink. Think about a hot July 4th weekend...

This is a liquid only solution. I read people use these in their vans and they don't smell since it is sealed. Mine will stay on the hitch carrier. I might get one of the pop ups since they seem easy to open and then take down. Or we just turn the climate control to full blast and fresh air. That should get a good flow of air from the front blowing out the back hatch. Vehicle would be in the accessory on position so we won't be breathing exhaust fumes.

My wife gave me a strange look when I showed her this option.
