still tying to identify with primitive wilderness with amenities ....
but id aim that rig towards Linville Gorge. East coast wilderness and has a spot for you, but the better the spot the further the amenities.
-East side of gorge aka jonas ridge has some good spots down in the valley alongside a river but not the linville river and has Park attractions like table rock and hawksbill for day trip destinations
-west side of gorge has old 105, plenty of trails, a park HQ, and tons of individual camping spots along roadside but some traffic and the hike to water is steep and ling no matter what
-move over east into wilson scenic gorge... more primitive and lesser used. FSR 192 makes a good loop with camps along the creek occasionally and a place to set up camp at each end. can be in blowing rock in 40 min from camp for other side of coin experience. OR camp in mortimer and call it semi primitive with bath house and small campsite to use as base of operations.
-Weavers Bend in Hot springs nc and make the paint creek loop your weekend explore via foot and tire. On the french broad with lots of streams near by and town to buy local steaks when you dont land the big one
-round mtn campground is about as primitive as organized camping gets.... never seen another person in the campground
-Ive trailed off the souther pisgah knowledge of whats actually available a bit lately but you have the Gorges state park and chustnut mtn road (?) i believe that leads out the bottom through lots of trails towards the river and the locked SC state line
