I replaced mine with safelite, works fine after two years. I don't know what the big deal is? :cheers:Ned

price jump!!! requested OE glass when I called my insurance company today, $700 difference between aftermarket and a OE for my 97 LX450. They approved it, after I baffled them with crap about how aftermarket wont match my other windows.

Typically the 3 or 4 or 5 big threads that will never die:

Motor Oil
Radiator Fluid
Windshields
Bumpers (both front & back)
Sliders

You forgot tires:grinpimp:

But, yeah, jump in price is truly disgusting. My parts guy at the Yota Stealership even says to screw ORM and get a PPG, the OEM glass is just waaayyyyy out of control:mad:

ok, here comes a 5 month bump --

So I have gathered the best course of action is:

1) PPG Glass. OEM prices jumped and are now criminal (200 vs 700+)
2) New gasket
3) Urethane between frame and windshield, windshield and gasket.

Correct?

So when all that is done, where did you guys buy the glass? And then did you take it to a mechanic somewhere?

Thanks all. I just picked up my truck a month ago and now get to deal with this lol

PPG glass is fine, never had a problem with the glass, only the installations.DONT USE L.S.I. GLASS!!!! Mike

Just ask the glass shop to get the glass and ask them what the options are. My local place never has an issue getting PPG and the main tech recommends it because it fits well.

Buy the Gasket from Toyota. I've gotten several from Cruiserdan, so for sure they are available.

Just make sure you have an agreement on the glue thing before you start. I also take in a copy of the FSM and show it to the tech and get his agreement as well before proceeding.

Mine is an aftermarket piece from Pilkington. Only cost me $250 CAD a few years back. Getting it properly installed was the trouble. I'll never go back to a Speedy autoglass again after that debacle.

I replaced my troopers oem one with a pilkington window and was happy with it, looks and fits like oem. Sorry I cant offer any help with the lc spec one.

But if it helps i believe a few automakers use pilkington as oem.

Mine is Pilkington too. Fits nicely, and no tint strip across the top (personal preference)

It is really not too hard to do yourself, i did my hatch 2 years ago, and my front windshield last year. The only tough part is time- if you are like me and had some rust under the gasket you gotta sand that off and reprime paint etc. before windshield goes in. I only had one guy helping me with install and it went pretty good (i think ) just mask off your dash etc so that yummy gooey urethane does not get where ya dont want it. !
