If you have the money buy one already restored.

My first FJ40 was one that the previous owner had poured (and I mean POURED) money into. Easily over $60K. He had spent $31,240 at a LandCruiser shop in Marysville, WA and that was just mechanical parts and labor.

I bought the thing on ebay for $12K and thought I got a "deal". The reality is it wasn't very well done at all. Lot's of things were just half a**ed, and many of the poorly done things were done by the shop that specializes in LandCruisers.

The best advice I got was to buy one and build it from scratch. That way I got it the way I wanted it and I knew exactly what it had.
