Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while, finally have everything lined up to buy a 100 series either this weekend or next weekend. I've got my eye on two, both of which I'm going to see in person hopefully Saturday (there is nothing good in my area so I'll be driving a bit).

So the first is a 2006 LX, 95k miles, asking $25k. Never had the timing belt changed but otherwise from the service records and carfax seems to be in really good condition.

The second is a 2005 LX, 105k miles, asking $22.5. Had its timing belt changed at 50k miles in 2010. Again, pretty clean looking service record with regular visits to the dealer for oil changes etc.

The Edmunds "True Value" dohicky said they should be more ballpark $18.5 - $20k.

In your opinions where should be a good target to get the dealer down to?

Thanks!

if one doesnt have NAV go for the NonNav one!
If it were me I would go for the 05 since it wont need TB,Water pump etc for a few years plus it is about $3k cheaper list price plus the initial savings of not having to do the TB up front.....

I was reading the wonderful thread on pulling out the nav system today and just thinking man, I wish I could find one without, but gotta work with what I have.

Both seemed to be priced in the ball park. Have you checked out the MUD classifieds? There's an '06 or '07 LX w 83K miles asking $27K. So, the '06 w 95K miles at $25K and '05 w 105K miles at $22.5K seem in line.

Get a thorough PPI to see what sort of expenses you'll have to base line and use that to negotiate off the price of the one you want. Since they both have AHC, make sure the system is working correctly and has been serviced.

Good luck - the hunt is half the fun!

Crazy story, my friend was selling his lx470 2007 with 75k miles. Had Nav, no REAS. He asked me if I was interested, but at $38k, I said it was overpriced. He put it on Craigslist, and after 2 months of no interest, a guy called and asked the regular questions (condition, title status, etc...) Comes to look at the vehicle one Saturday morning while I was there, spends 5 minutes tops looking at it, asks my buddy if he can drop the price a bit because of a garage door scuff on the front bumper/fender. My buddy knocked off $1k. The guy says I'll take it... Which bank do you bank at? So he says I'll meet you there in an hour. The crazy part.... He didn't drive it, let alone start it or even put the key in the ignition. We got to the bank early to ask if there is any way he could be getting scammed if the guy brings a cashier's check, they said not really. A few minutes later the guy rolls in, gets a cashier check made from the same bank we were at, hands it over to my friend and he deposits it into his own account right in front of the teller, signs over the pink slip and signs a bill of sale. Hands the guys the keys and he rolls out. We were stunned... It's been 3 months now, money is still there. Never seen anything like this, and had to share. Sorry that this is way off topic.

@norcalgx Cashier Checks are about as legitimate as currency gets, since they are guaranteed by the bank itself, whereas personal checks are backed by only his checking account. easier to counterfeit $100 bills

I don't think cashiers checks are what they used to be - very easy to forge. I'd still finish the transaction at the bank - and verify the funds.

I'd likely lean toward the '06 with the VVTi an the 40 more hp.

Well I got home last night at 11pm with my new 2006! After months of lurking I finally pulled the trigger. It will be a while before I do anything to it besides ordering some weather tech mats but man it was nice on the drive back from Atlanta.

Just bought an 06 with 140K, super clean with new tires, fresh timing belt and CV shafts. It has Nav but no AHC. It was a one owner total suburban cruiser. Never had a hitch in the receiver. Took it to my local guru and he did a thorough inspection and declared it a winner. Paid 21.5K. Its headed to see Mr. Slee later this year for a full makeover.
