Gentlemen, in preparation of building a house battery setup, I preemptively replaced my good denso reman alternator and VatoZone battery with an X2 AGM from batteries plus and a mechman 250amp alternator from Mechman. Knowing that AGMs require at least 14.5V constant, I installed a diode on the alt sensing circuit. These mechman alternators DO require running 2 gauge minimum power wire directly to the battery along with a shorter belt.
I went with 4/0 gauge welding wire braided and heat shrank for power and ground. I also installed a Steve Meade Designs ground distribution block to clean up ALL the grounds for the Big 3. Also had some spare ABS lying around to fab an easy bracket. ( Forgot how easy it is to bend with a vise and a little heat. ) Knukonceptz battery terminal ends made the install easier with many options to customize later down the road.
As you can see in the pics, at idle, she is running 14.8V. More than enough for anything needed in the future.
Now I've already done ALL the maintenance and full suspension rebuild, but we've seen enough of those posts.
*Full disclosure - the mechman alternator looks very similar to stock unlike the car stereo buffs cnc cased one on the box. ( Apologize, I get into a groove in my shop and just work. Pics are always secondary. )
