Good morning,

I just got a 1958 and I love it so far. It came with the Predator door step and I am thinking of selling them. How hard would it be to get a good price on them? I want to get rock sliders instead, but before I purchase any, I want to sell the Predator steps. Also, how good is Westcott when it comes to their accessories for our LC? Is it worth the wait for their upcoming parts, or do you guys recommend something different? I am fairly new to off-road and I would like to do it right the first time.

It might be hard to give them away. You are in SE Toyota region, who loves to put as much port garbage on everything that comes through them as possible, so probably 98% of the non first editions (with factory rock rails) are going to have those steps on them. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they took off factory rock rails and put on predator steps.

An option if you can't find a buyer is to take a grinder and cut off those hideous steps. That would be my first move personally.

As far as Wescott, I'm not familiar with them as I think they've primarily served the Taco and 4rnr markets.

Brands I'm considering for my sliders will be Budbuilt, Slee, and Dissent.

Than you guys for the responses. If I were to grind the steps, is everything else as strong as rock sliders, or is it just better to get them?

No, if you need rock sliders, you need real ones. Those steps are super thin tubing that will crush like a beer can with any weight on them, and more importantly, they are mounted with a few tiny bolts into the body sheet metal, and will cause body damage if you try to use them as rock sliders. Real sliders are DOM tubing connected to the frame.

From what I've read, they may not be as "super thin" as you suggest nor mounted to the sheet metal. Not trying to start an argument but someone on another thread crawled under one at the launch event and his opinion was that they were of "decent" quality and they were definitely bolted into the frame, not the body. Would I install them and expect them to fully protect my rocker panel when falling onto a boulder, no. However, there are plenty of people who need basic protection and don't need to pay the $1700 for Dissent, Slee, Budbuilt, etc.

That thread is talking about the Toyota Rock Rails, not the Predator door steps.
