Hi everyone.

First, bj70alex, I believe in your recommendation, I just want to know other opinion :).

I will rebuilt my cylinder head pretty soon.

What is the pertinence of changing the precup ?

What is the probability of fiding crack on my actual precup?

Is it good to change it anyway because my head is open ?

Thank.

If you've pulled the head have it magnafluxed and replace the pre-cups. They are cheap through Australia. I think I paid about $25 ea.

 what that ?? (sorry french guy here !)

its a process by which cracks can be seen in metal that otherwise cannot be seen with the naked eye.

$25! Here in Canada most want $100 dollars each for them. Can you show us where you can get such a good price.
Thanks,
Deny

Deny,

I ordered mine from Australia as well. Part number: CH3BPCC x 4-$28.45 EA AUD. Here are some freight options to zip code 42104. Web site: www.gwengineparts.au

DHL -$105.55 3-4 DAYS
GMS -$52.00 7-10 DAYS
AIMC -$25.00 10-14 DAYS

I ordered mine on 5/12 (using AIMC option) and received them yesterday, less then 10 days.

I am going to pick up the head from machine shop this afternoon. I asked the guy who was working on a head to let me know if there is a slight problem installing precups. And they fit perfect, no problem at all. I will be puttiong my cruiser back together this weekend.

Alex

200 $, because I figure ±15$ for the shipping...

I would suggest seriously considering replacing all the old precups with the new ones since you have the head apart now. There are just too many people with stories of dropped stock precups wrecking a motor (it happened to me and I know 2 other owners locally). The aftermarket ones available through Australia are supposed to be excellent; aren't they stainless?

Cheers from rainy Ottawa.

Mike

I know Mike...

But see what happen. I send the head at the head shop (the best in Montréal said my retire diesel mechanic teacher friend).... I wainting to recieve my precup from australia. The shop said the precup was in very good condition... and anymay, at this time, the precup still in the mail. So I did not change them.

ALSO, the PO make a head job before... put my problem came from a bad head cylender assembly (bad torque, bad seal...) and the shop believe it already chage the precup in the pass...

So ANYWAY, the head is actualy on my engine block and I start to built up my motor.

If I have the precup befor... I would change it... but now, is to late... that why is bad for me.

I will knock on wood now :)

Cheer from rainy rainy Montréal too ;)

...makes sense; I see where you're coming from...

You'll take care of it, so it'll last a long time as it should.
