My beloved 2000 LX (I am the original owner) may be for sale but wanted to get thoughts on its potential value given its condition:

- 200K miles
- under carriage rust is severe (rust belt winters)
- AHC system issues - lost all fluid due to busted line and suspect one or more shocks are blown - ridding on springs right now
- no rear bumper - sold Slee rear bumper from it already
- ARB front bumper with Warn 9.5xp winch (but needs a solenold repair) and 3 240mm Lightforece lights (middle light is HID)
- Frontrunner full slim line rack
- 45 gallon aux fuel tank
- Slee sliders
- Drawers

I would prefer to sell vs parting out as I don't have the time and energy.

Engine has been flawless and I have all records from when I purchased (May 2000) for local Lexus dealer.

I was thinking $10K for price - even with rust and suspension issues there is still a lot of value in the truck.

Thoughts

Get the stock bumper from the guy you sold the other one to. Replace the ahc line and bleed the system easy fix. Even if the shocks are on the way out having it function would be best for sale. I would say after that you could get 10k if your lucky. The thing that holds me back is the severe rust description. Define severe or pics?

You could dump the ahc and do an OME and clean things up and ask 13500 all day I would think.

Rust is going to be the biggest factor on price to most, even with mods, can you post some pics of it?

In my humble opinion, I think rust will only be the biggest factor if @pegasis0066 decides to list the rig solely on mud. Car enthusiasts and cruiserheads alike understand the potential ramifications of rust, however I'd venture to guess he'll easily be able to sell the rig for whatever asking price he wants (within reason obviously, say $9K-$11K) if he lists it for sale on craigslist, cars.com, autotrader, cargurus, etc. On top of that, given he lives in the rust belt I'd also venture to guess the rust-based-depreciation will be as minimal as possible.

But again, I say list it for $10,500 on the aforementioned public sites and sell it to someone who, unlike fellow mudders, is not terrified by the sight of underbody rust...not saying lie about the condition of the truck by any means, but simply sell it to a non-rust-despising-individual.

Just my $0.02

Thanks for the replies. I am not interested in dealing with the rust in order to address the suspension issue(s). I just want to sell as is.

Doubt you'll get much for it here based on the rust description, as benjawi4 said above. But without a rear bumper, that will turn off lots of potential buyers on the non-MUD market. You're kinda backing yourself up right between a rock and hard place, IMO. I suggest at least replacing the rear bumper so pics look normal/decent wherever you wind up posting it. Otherwise if selling as-is, don't expect much. Can't see someone here paying $10k with your description of "severe rust belt winters" and other issues, even with the mods included. Regardless, best of luck to you. You leaving the forum for good or coming back with another rig?

IMO, 10K for a vehicle riding on spring (which to me is not drive-able) with severe rust and no rear bumper is going to be a tough sell. The mods means very little when the car can not be driven as-is.

Just for comparison, I was in the market for another car. I saw a 98 or 99 with 180K LC offered for $7.5 with severe rust (in my opinion) a few months ago. It has been on CL for months, with no taker. I decided to pass after looking at the picture of the rust. It was stock and looked pretty good overall, until I saw the pictures under the car. Owner said it drives fine.

I dont like pricing others peoples things but I'd guess in the market around me about 5-7. Rust scares the hell out of most people that are into cars. And from personal experience mods dont do anything for resale. Most people are looking for something to buy and drive from point a-b and then back to a at the end of the day. People that want to build and wheel a "luxury SUV" arent too common.
Just my .02. (if you decide to part out let me know, Id be interested in quite a few of the parts and would trade you out for original stuff, also have my stock rear bumper laying in the garage right now)

The problem(s) as I see it:

At this point, finding an aux tank in the US isn't easy nor cheap, but anyone that really finds that attractive, (and the other mods) is probably going to take issue with the "severe rust".

Even if I were to ignore the rust for the moment:

With the aux tank, I assume the spare doesn't fit in the factory location any longer. The drawers are probably in the way in the back.($1500-2500 for a bumper with a swing out )

You've got a "heavyweight" (bumpers/drawers/aux tank/winch) on a broken AHC suspension ($1000-2500 for a conventional aftermarket suspension, plus labor on a rusty truck)

A nice winch, but it needs repair.

From your classified ad, it seems that the step slider "plates" are gone.

Where is it on timing belt/steering rack?

Is the sunroof frozen shut?

From my perspective $10K for a currently un-drivable, incomplete project vehicle, that has cosmetic issues (missing bumper/step plates) and rust issues is pretty optimistic.

Your vehicle probably won't appeal to most that know that 200k really isn't all that much on one of these cars (due to the rust), nor someone wanting a clean/stock Lexus, nor someone wanting a cheap winter car or hunting vehicle (not currently drivable).

I see stock, ready to drive, rust free, ~200K mi, 00-01 LXs at $6500-9500 on the local craigslist.
